Mission 3.16 After Ram::Castor paces the center of the arena as the Grey and Cadet combat pilots scramble into the circling benches. Some of the Cadets begin to emulate the Greys and sit with their feet up, or otherwise more comfortably than the "stiffs" (those who felt it necessary to constantly stand, or sit, at attention)::
::As the throng quiets, Castor projects his voice::
The Ram's Head Two has just launched.
For those of you who don't know, the Empire, before the destruction of the first Death Star, was developing a "super shield" technology to be used against us. The Ram's Head was the Imperial prototype a Corvette which was their demonstration model. The Alliance mounted an operation to steal this prototype, which was to be used in a subsequent operation in preparation for the attack against the first Death Star.
The Ram was quickly mapped and spec'ed by our best people, and it's computer core which held the "prints" was copied. With this information we were able to duplicate the technology later, and even improve on it.
The first Ram, however, was set on it's final course and the autopilot was locked in. The pilots then evacuated the Ram and escaped in a Shuttle no one trusted the Ram enough to stay on board during the operation and sent into the area an Imperial Star Destroyed Space Dock. The Star Destroyers, all docked in a nice and neat row, fell to the Ram as it physically and literally pounded it's way through each ship's bridge section.
The original Ram, not meant for such a large job, developed a malfunction in it's hyperdrive controller, and proceeded to jump. Having no crew on board on board to bring the Ram out of hyperspace, we can only assume that it burned up in the center of a star somewhere along it's original trajectory. Subsequently, the Alliance "cloned" the Ram and the technology in the Ram 1 series.
Many of you have observed Kedrin's Avengers making short "hyper hops". This is a tactical capability that is quite useful, but the technology a few examples of which were found on Kedrin's Star Destroyer when we captured it has not been fully tested by our experts.
The first Alliance prototype of this "hyper hop" technology has been introduced into the Ram's Head 2. This will allow the Ram to make multiple passes through an area. This, however, requires that the crew remain on board. Volunteers from the Shock Team have been installed onto the Ram for this operation.
In this case, since we are attacking an armada, we expect to be able to make no more than two successful passes. However, the General feels that two passes will be sufficient to decimate the main body of the armada while leaving it's command craft crews in a severe state of chaos and thereby vulnerable to attack.
When the Ram's Head 2 has finished it's second run we will receive the "go" signal. If all goes well, we will only have the command craft a Star Destroyer and a single Frigate along with their Starfighter support, with which to deal.
In this mission you will have your choice of flying B Wings or X Wings Flight 2 will take the other. Cadets will have the A Wings this time around, and Flight 3 will stand by in X Wings, just in case. Shock Team Group 3 will lend immediate assistance in bringing down the Frigate's shields, while Shock Groups 1 and 2 are waiting in Corvettes for "go" orders to capture the two capital ships.
::The battle stations claxon begins, and a female voice sounds over the ship com "After Ram is a 'go'. I repeat. After Ram is a go. Grey Leader, After Ram is a go."::
::Some of the Cadets had started to jump toward the door, but stopped short when they noticed that none of the Grey pilots had moved from their previous positions::
::Castor continued quickly::
Expect both Opaline and Emerald to run get them down as quickly as possible. Make sure that you stay alert for ANY escaping craft and prevent them from leaving the scene, as well.
We expect a lot of expert Starfighter resistance, but little in the way of larger craft.
Soar with the Gods!
::Before Castor's last word faded, the Grey pilots were already through the door on their way to their StarFighters. The ship com voice continued "The Ram reports the successful destruction of twenty three Star Destroyer and Frigates only the command craft remain." ::
