Briefing

After the [Battle of Yavin] the Empire began using the Nebulon B Frigate with much greater regularity. It was superbly suited to protecting convoys from the depradations of Alliance starfighters. With too few capital ships to throw against the Frigates, then Commander Ackbar realized the need for a specially designed heavy fighter. He was able enlist the unique shipbuilding skills of the [Verpine]. The [Verpine] are an insectoid race from the [Roche] system. Though unwilling to join the Alliance, they did commit to the project. They built two prototypes and showed Ackbar's engineers how to build more. The Empire found out about the project through a traitor on Ackbar's staff. Thanks to the efforts of a daring Rebel strike team, the prototypes and project personnel were saved from Imperial capture. You will fly the number two ship. Follow the (unarmed) number one prototype out of the test facility and prepare to fight your way out of an Imperial trap! A number of Corvettes and Transports will be attacking. The Transports will attempt to disable you for capture. You must ensure that both prototypes and the evacuation ships make it to safety. [Blue] Squadron will come to your assistance shortly.
