Republic Shield Moves to Tarsonis
Tarsonis -- In a surprising move, Admiral Trebonious-Astoris this morning announced the official relocation of Task Force Republic Shield from the abandoned ruins of Blerthmore to the populated world of Tarsonis.
In a major media event, Tarsonis citizens and RS personnel were invited to the Victory Star Destroyer Peril where the official announcement took place. Admiral Trebonious-Astoris spoke at length explaining the decision to relocate from the ruined holdings on Blerthmore, and move further in-system to the populated world of Tarsonis. The world has been used for years as the prime shore leave destination for task force personnel, and this relocation will solidify the previously nebulous relations between the civilian government and task force command.
Admiral Trebonious-Astoris explained that the move was made for a number of practical reasons, much to do with the changing times that were faced, such as the Blerthmore disaster which demonstrated that the task force had spread itself too thin over the years. He added that while housing military officials of the task force on an unpopulated world was initially chosen to minimise potential collateral damage and was a sound idea, the current strategic situation required a concentration of strength around vital positions, rather than a dilution of defences.
President Aluin of the Colonial Tarsonis government was also present for the event, at the Admiral’s side, representing the civilian government. She spoke of unity and of increased co-operation between the civilian government and the military forces, as well as welcoming on the behalf of her citizenry the RS to the world in a permanent, official capacity.
Multi-million credit plans were also revealed for the immediate construction of a new command fortress on the planet to replace the ruined command dome on Blerthmore, along with new academy facilities to replace the loss of the Golan training academy Castor in the Battle of Blerthmore.
It seems that the relocation to Tarsonis after the ruination of Blerthmore exactly three months ago has been on the table for a while, as significant negotiations between the Tarsonis government and task force command appear to have yielded mutually beneficial results. While the world is now more closely protected by the watchful Greeop Defence Force, it has been announced that the Tarsonis government will be subsidising start-up operational costs for the new RS facilities to be constructed on the world.
At the time of this report, shuttles have begun ferrying many of the officials, dignitaries and invited guests to the planet’s surface for a continuation of the celebrations, hosted by the welcoming citizens of Tarsonis. And with the added guarantee of more warships in orbit, their enthusiastic support is understandable.
