Medical Frigate Attacked
Tarsonis --- A cowardly attack has been carried out by Greeop Sector militants on the medical frigate Vespia earlier today which has resulted in the complete loss of the vessel, Republic Shield officials report. The attack occurred while the medical frigate was responding to a medical emergency in the Oberon system.
Reports state the vessel was crippled by militant saboteurs cowardly disguised as wounded, leaving the medical ship adrift and vulnerable to further assault. Despite the valiant defence of Republic Shield forces, militant forces cowardly bombed the medical vessel to its end.
Four hundred and seventy-seven lives were lost, along with vital medical equipment including bacta tanks and two-thirds of the frigate's complement of medical droids. The remaining crew escaped during the assault, including the entire medical staff.
President Aluin of Tarsonis has publicly condemned the attacks. "These militants have sealed their doom by destroying the Vespia. To attack a medical ship in its duty of rescuing the sick and the injured is an act of the lowest and most heinous kind. The medical emergency in the Oberon system has now worsened as a result. The lives lost on the Vespia were not the only murders committed by these lawless militants today. Any casualties in the Oberon system are also on the heads of the perpetrators of this cowardly act. These lawless cowards must be hunted down and brought to justice, and I have faith that Admiral Astoris's forces will prevail in this matter."
Her comments were underlined by Governer Klint of Theseus, in the Oberon system, where the Vespia's medical services are direly needed. "These pirates are the worst kind of scum. This was not just an attack on a military vessel, but an assault on a medical ship. A medical ship that was to redress our medical emergency! The innocent are the ones who will suffer today thanks to this senseless act. This kind of madness must be stopped! Our people are dying without the assistance the medical ship was to deliver!"
In response, the Fleet Commander's office has issued a statement mirroring the sentiments of the Tarsonis and Theseus governments. Admiral Trebonious-Astoris has reportedly promised to stamp out the remaining militant activity in the Greeop Sector, and assured the people of the Oberon system that medical assistance would still be arriving, but that there would be some delay due to the loss of the Vespia.
