Admiral Ackbar Arrested
Coruscant --- Feelings of shock and outrage have quickly spread throughout the New Republic military today, following the wake of news from Coruscant that Admiral Ackbar has been relieved of his duties as Supreme Commander of the New Republic Defence Force and arrested amid charges of treason.
Among the greatest heroes of the Rebellion, Admiral Ackbar has served as an invaluable figure in the highest levels of New Republic command since its inception, his wisdom and experience having helped lay the foundations even as he led the forces responsible for pushing the last remnants Empire out of the Core in recent times.
As arguably one of the most popular figures among the men and women of our fighting forces throughout the New Republic Armed Forces, reactions to news of the arrest were understandably strong to say the least. Here are but a small number of comments we've received from local soldiers since the story broke earlier today.
"Are you [expletive deleted] kidding me? Ackbar for treason?? There's no [expletive deleted] way! The man's a [expletive deleted] hero a hundred times over!"
"This is some kind of a sick joke right? How could he of all people have turned on us? I won't believe it."
"Arrested for WHAT?! What kind of idiots do they have in charge nowadays?"
"Fire up the [expletive deleted] fleet and let's head to Coruscant; no way's a man like that spending the night in a cell."
While the editors and staff here in general strive to remain impartial, it's hard not to agree with the sentiment that these charges must be either some kind of mistake, or something even more sinister in nature. It is difficult to believe that the leader of the Rebel fleet at Endor, which saw the destruction of the second Death Star and the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and his lieutenant Darth Vader, or the leader of New Republic forces that liberated Coruscant from the Empire's thrall could possibly be working for the Empire's betterment.
