Greetings, Members of the Rebel Squadrons. ":)

If I may paraphrase an appropriate statement from the previous President of the United States, "the state of the Rebel Squadrons is good." The purpose of this newsletter will be to describe to you why this is so. For that reason I'm going to go with a different format from the usual, news-ish form. Let's talk about our club for a little while.

In talking about the State of the RS, I can't help but turn to the recent post on our main BBS entitled "Is the RS headed for extinction?" Well, the obvious answer to that question is a resounding no! As I stated on the BBS in my reply, the RS is a community of people, not a collection of Star Wars games. Older members, does the RS seem different to you then it did a year ago? Two years ago? Three years ago? Undoubtedly it does. Indeed, many facets of the club are changing almost daily.

The key point is that this change isn't making the RS "extinct" or making it any less fun a club than it was in the past. The RS is wildly successful because we have a core group of very dedicated people who work very hard every day to ensure that this club is fun for the rest of the members. You'll see these diligent workers everywhere, in your squad, in your fleet leadership, in the B&G. We're not getting paid for this, we do it because we want too. And we'll continue to do it.

So why is the RS doing good? Let's talk membership numbers. Our roster tells me we have 372 current members, which is pretty good. Most of you will remember that even just a few months ago, the number was down in the 330's and 340's. Our continued growth is tangible proof of success. Let's also talk information services. Today's RS member is better informed, better connected to RS issues as a whole, and has more RS-wide spirit than his contemporary did four years ago. We've made leaps and bounds in terms of communications technology, and it shows.

But all this is impossible without the people. And as long as the people continue to support this club, to update webpages, to write email, and to hang out in the B&G, this club will continue to flourish. That, my friends, is why we can say that the State of the Rebel Squadrons is good!

At any rate, we have some interesting news now. The poll on the BBS to decide which new design should be the new webpage has been ongoing for two weeks now, and its time to declare a winner at the poll and move on with the process. The overwhelming choice of the RS membership at large is for the new blue design, winning with a confident 79% votes as of today. The people of the RS have spoken, and true to its word, the administration will follow their advice. The RS page will be converted to the blue design as soon as possible.

Along with this news, I'd like to reiterate our request for submissions for a main pic for the new index page. Our plan is to take several good pics and set them on a random rotation on the main page, so that we can get even more people involved with the look of the new page. If you would like to make a submission and get your pic on the RS main page, email the FC today!

In Outer Rim War news, the RS recently pulled back from a defeat at the hands of the EH to take the Malkoria System in the Cadrel Expanse. Congratulations to all the participants that made this possible! ORW continues this Saturday at 2 pm EST on #OuterRim on the Innernet.

In High Command news, your Fleet CO's recently finished making their reports to the FC on the status of their fleets. All CO's checked in with great reports, so I'd like to congratulate the entire membership of the RS on that. High Command is now wrapping up a discussion on the use of trademarked Star Wars names as club character names.

That's all I have for this month, folks. You're all doing great. I know the pressure as the school year is coming to an end, because I'm feeling it too. Keep pushing and we'll get through this to the blessed season of summer, and the RS of course will push right along with us. Thank you all for everything you do for this club.

Reach for the stars, and you will find that you can often catch them!
