Greetings Members of the Rebel Squadrons,

Over the past few weeks, some dramatic and dynamic events have transpired throughout all stratums of the club. An awakening has occurred that demands change to make the Rebel Squadrons a better place than it is now.
This can lead many to believe that the state of the Rebel Squadrons is in a position of disarray, but I will never believe that to be the case. This is why. All the energy used to push for change is now being funneled to make that change into a reality. People are taking action and working towards getting the job done, myself included. The time is now, and things will only improve if we band together as one club and get right to work on improving anything we can. I encourage every member, regardless of rank or position, to follow the lead of others like LCL Orian LaCarde, LCL Taan “Hawk” Ronar, BGN Wes “Gizmo” Belden, and LGN Boid “Gambit” Reaves by voicing your opinions on a forum such as the RS BBS in a respectful and thoughtful manner and doing their best to help work towards a solution for better change by offering constructive ideas for improvement. Those kinds of voices will always be heard and considered. Thank you, gentlemen!
Like in all SotRS Addresses, you will find a report from every office in the Executive Branch. These reports should give everyone a fairly good insight into the day to day operations and happenings of this club. The latest HC NF is posted at the end as well. Many congratulations to those pilots and commandos that received medals!

First off, I want to commend LCL Orian LaCarde on his great ideas and the approach he used to voice his beliefs on the BBS (http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/bbs/readMsg.php?msgID=6951) and the many others that have done the same. This is exactly the kind of constructive thinking we need to work towards in order to create probable solutions to the problems at hand. Yes, I did say problems. It is easy to admit this club has problems, but harder to offer solutions. So I challenge everyone to follow Orian’s example and to enunciate their own ideas for improvement within this club, at all levels. I promise to you all that I am listening, and High Command is listening. And we are not just listening, we are understanding.

As others have already suggested, the main thing I would like to see fixed within the Rebel Squadrons is the unity at all echelons of command and communication. Hopefully, working towards these things will help foster solutions to the other tribulations as well. Unity is something we will all have to consciously work together on, but bringing communication to the point it should be is something I can deliver right now. Some things you will see changing around here:

1) Weekly Sunday night “RS Community” meetings in #OuterRim on IRC from 6-9 pm EST. Every RS member is invited and it will be an open forum conducted by the FC and HC as a chance for anyone to ask valid and constructive questions, offer ideas, address real concerns, etc. This is a privledge I would like to share with you all, so I hope to see everyone there while on their best behavior. This is a serious chance for every member to have the opportunity of their voice be heard.

2) Expect such club wide announcements as the State of the Rebel Squadrons Address (SotRS) and High Command NewsFlash (HC NF) to be released on a more consistent basis. The SotRS will now be set for release every three weeks, and the HC NF will be released once a week, every Saturday. The SotRS will continue to give club wide news, announcements, and information, as well as honoring those members that have made distinguished accomplishments since the previous SotRS. The HC NF will be a more detailed report about the current happenings in High Command (position changes, etc) as well as a look at what is currently being debated by the council. Again, expect these sources of information on a more consistent basis.

3) Every member now has access to an “Email the HC” link in three locations on the roster database – the navigation bar, menu page, and HC roster. These emails will be sent to the FC, XO, and GEN Indiana Bridger (as RS Third Officer) for review (and this is only to weed out any unthought-out, immature, or provocative messages), but it will be made absolutely sure that every respectful and constructive email will be forwarded on for all of High Command to view, no matter how agreeable or disagreeable the opinions in the email may be to anyone. This is a promise that will be kept, and it is hoped that this system will be taken full advantage of and not abused. It is at your disposal.

I challenge every member in this club – every Fleet CO, every Wing CO, every Squadron CO, etc - to start working on two things: unity and communication. It all starts with you guys, and everyone knows that. If we all strive for unity, and cultivate an atmosphere of respect, internal relations in this club will improve tenfold. Imagine what we can get accomplished then? Follow HIER! As for communication, I dare every person in this club to take more initiative, keep your people up to date, write more emails, and reward those where credit is due. Keep communication strong! If I can try harder in these attributes, then so can you. And if that can happen, we can make this club what we want it to be – together.

Hey Guys,

I'm currently trying to get help to create the large scale competition that is to become the Outer Rim War. Currently the Vast Empire is also enlisting help, and the Star Vipers and 5th Fleet have offered to help with this. Hopefully the Emperor’s Hammer will possibly join in once communication is re-established with them. To accomplish the goals set out in the following proposal, the Operations Office is ready to hire anyone who wants to help in some way or form. This project does have helpers ready in and out of the gaming clubs, and work must be begun quickly. If you want to see this event happen, send me an email at don_cantanine@yahoo.com

Here is the basic proposal which has been seen by RSHC, the ORW Council and the top hierarchy of other clubs:

1) No new cases. Every now and then a complaint is sent back to the proper CoC. With no new cases, does this mean people are actually following HIER? ;P

2) Remember, any possible judicial complaints can reviewed by the MoJ by filling out the form at http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/doia/form.html

1) Recognizing the need to reconcile the myth of such legendary veteran officers of the RS as Dialathos, Super, and Castor, with the truth behind their careers and very real contributions to the club, the OHR has decided to create a series of biographies on these personalities and others. The HO will alert the RS as each new biography becomes available. Most likely this project will begin after the RSXO and RSIO create some sort of database. This is, however, an exciting feature to keep an eye out for in the future.

HC NewsFlash 1/12/02
Rear Admiral Shikkie Kaaran, Rebel Squadrons Executive Officer

Like much of the club, High Command was in recess over the recent holiday season but is now back in full swing. We hope all RSers had a safe and happy holiday season! :)

Upon its return, High Command has been involved in some very tough debates over the removal of RA Slate Mallar from command of the Intrepid Battle Group for being AWOL without contacting the Fleet Commander. This issue has been resolved by Slate's resignation from command. Also, recent BBS posts in regard to HC are being discussed, considered, and debated.

As always, feel free to direct suggestions, ideas, or concerns to RSFC Rahj Tharen (fc@rebelsquadrons.org) and RSXO Shikkie Kaaran (rsxo@rebelsquadrons.org) for consideration and possible proposal of the idea to High Command for discussion.

(Note: No report was received from the Uniforms Office because the UO is currently on a Leave of Absence. However, the UO remains closed until further notice.)

Please join me in honoring the respects of Todd Anthony Fitzgerald, known to us as Major Todd “StrmTroop”. StrmTroop was a member of the Allegiance Battle Group and his fictional funeral can be read here: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/bbs/readMsg.php?msgID=6886.

On a less somber note, one of our own is leaving for a real life student exchange program and will be gone from us for five months. I would like to extend the entire Rebel Squadron’s wish of good luck to long-time Shadow Squad CO, BGN Inys Fey`Lar. Best of luck in your future endeavors and school work in France. Come back soon, Inys!

In closing, I would like to remind everyone of the challenge before us.

May the Force be with you and may the pride and honor of the Rebel Squadrons carry on in all of you!

Respectfully submitted,

Vice Admiral Rahj Tharen,
Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander
