============== RS Community Meeting ===============

The first of the "RS Community Meetings" was held last Sunday. While
it was a productive experience, there are a few kinks in the system that need
worked out. These meetings are supposed to be respectful gatherings to
discuss the RS and issues the RS membership want to address. Also, I want to
remind you that the meetings fall under the HIER code, which as you should
know by now stands for Honor, Integrity, Equanimity, and Respect. Please keep
that in
mind while presenting your own ideas and listening to the ideas of others.

A couple of members have expressed that they feel the time of the
meeting is inappropriate for some members. As discussed last week, HC
scheduled the time to try and make it possible for the most people to be
available to attend. We are aware that not everyone in the RS can attend at
one time, but that is the nature of global membership. This week's meeting
will be at the same time, and after this HC will evaluate how successful the
time of the meeting is, whether it should be on another day, another time, if
it should be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, etc.

This time the first hour will be the bulk of the meeting, and after
that the floor will open to more open debate and opportunities to ask
questions. I encourage everyone to attend so you can get your two credits in
:)

=================== Rebellion Mod Approved ===============

By a majority vote of High Command, Captain Merlance of the Star
Vipers (http://www.starvipers.com/) has official permission to use the "Rebel
Squadrons" name in his Rebellion mod.

He has requested that anyone wishing to "volunteer" their character
for use in the mod send their character name, bio, and an image of their
character/themself to Commander Baron Bon Fel (t_henck@yahoo.com) of the RS,
who is acting as Captain Merlance's liaison to character volunteers. Merlance's email address is: merlance@yahoo.com

Again, High Command has only said that Captain Merlance can use the
"Rebel Squadrons" name. Therefore, your characters are your own and he must
have your permission to use your character. Also, anything that happens to
your character can be considered as part of an "alternate universe" or
"alternate reality" and will not affect your character's standing in the RS.
I encourage everyone to consider volunteering their character as this could
really help boost activity for Rebellion players, and could lead to more
involved mods involving multiple
clubs.

================== Member Suggestions ====================

From: Lieutenant General Boid "Gambit" Reaves
Issue: Regulations on profanity in the B&G
Status: Forwarded to the RSIO and B&G Manager for review

Lieutenant General Reaves has proposed that certain restrictions on
"Banned Words" be removed, and therefore the words be allowed in our main IRC
channel, #RS_Bar_and_Grill. As the Bylaws state that "The Rebel Squadrons
Internet Officer is to maintain the RS Domain (RS Wide pages, BBS, email
redirects, etc...) to the best of his/her ability as well as to oversee other
internet related activities (such as Official IRC Channels). ..." Pursuant to
this clause, this request is being forwarded down the Chain of Command to
Fleet Admiral Dev, RSIO, and Brigadier General Patrick Blastfire, Bar and
Grill Manager for policy review.

----------------------------------------------------------
From: Lieutenant Colonel Taan "Hawk" Ronar
Issue: RS Monetary System
Status: Returned to Hawk for further brainstorming.

This idea involves creating a sort of RS banking system and allowing
members to receive a salary, transfer funds to other members, buy things
(such as drinks in the B&G through a bot), and pay for services (like web
page design). Also the MOJ could institute fines. Further suggested is
betting on mission outcomes, and maybe even a sabacc game that would be tied
in.

This is an interesting concept, but if it were implemented it would be
a mammoth undertaking that would involve a great deal of restructuring. There
were many questions left unanswered by the proposal, so it is being sent back
to Lieutenant Colonel Ronar with a request that he expand upon it and provide
the idea with a clearer vision of its implementation.

----------------------------------------------------------
From: Lieutenant Colonel Lamin Zykara
Issue: Basic Training in the Academy
Status: Proposed to HC.

Colonel Zykara has suggested that the Academy have a "Basic Training"
area that serves to show cadets how to use various features of the RS, such
as going on IRC, using the BBS and Roster Database. He has suggested that
this act like a real military's Basic Training, and precedes enlistment in
the undergrad departments for their particular game(s). Another possibility
might be to have the Basic Training run concurrent with the undergrad program
(a cadet is in both at the same time) and graduation from an undergrad
department requires completion of the basic training program.

----------------------------------------------------------
From: Lieutenant General Remarda "Python" Jundun
Issue: Restructure of the Academy's Undergrad program (deep integration of
the Roster Database)
Status: Proposed to HC.

The idea is that when a cadet joins they are entered into a database
of cadets and grouped based upon what Undergrad they have been assigned to
(based on the games they choose to play of course). The system would track
when they joined, what requirements they have met on the way to graduation,
and their eligibility for Master Cadet and Master Cadet w/ Honors (based upon
the particular Undergrad's time requirements for those awards).

The system could also track when the Undergrad COs contact the cadet,
compared to when the cadet initially signed up to allow their supervisors to
track their efficiency. This could be done easily by not showing the cadet's
email address, therefore forcing the Undergrad CO to use the supplied email
feature.

Also, when a cadet graduates, the system can automatically add them to
the roster database with the right rank (based upon their graduation
requirements) and check to be sure they are not already there (using their
name and email address).

Suggestions and input on this proposal are especially welcomed, even
more welcomed if you are Academy Staff since this system would make a huge
impact on how you run your Undergrad department. Like all other large
projects this will take time to finalize and implement, so check in each week
for updates!

==========================================================

Feel free to direct suggestions or concerns to HC via any of the
following
options.

1) Use the "Email HC" feature of the Roster Database:
http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/roster/mail.php?type=hc
2) Email your Primary Fleet CO and ask them to forward your comments on.
3) Contact HC members on IRC or an Instant Messaging client like AOL or ICQ
(both of which appear in roster profiles if supplied).
4) The new "Community Meetings" on IRC. They are currently being held on
Sundays from 6-9PM EST (GMT -0500) in #outerrim
