Rebel Squadrons

State of the RS Address 8-10-02

On the rocky world of Blerthmore, one section of the planet never slept. Orbiting the Greeop System’s two suns, Greeop Prime and Trimore, the barren and lifeless planet offered a harsh existence on a surface layered with rock-strewn canyons and supplemented by an unforgiving nitrate atmosphere. But deep within the hectic lower levels of the protective Rebel Squadrons Fleet Command Dome Complex, a meeting was coming to order.

Fleet Admiral Dev, Rebel Squadrons Internet Officer, entered commands into his advanced datapad, and virtual images, thanks to an elaborate network of holo-projectors, hummed to life to fill in the vacant seating in High Command’s briefing room. Seeing his handy work completed, he turned to the Admiral pacing at the front of the long, oval shaped table that seated twelve and took his own seat. “Everything is connected, Sir. The Fleet Commanding Officers that could not be present are being patched through the Aegis Communications Center.”

Giving an approving nod, Admiral Rahj Tharen, Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander, stopped pacing and spoke from the head of the table. “We will get down to business as soon as Mr. Falcion arrives from Salsasia IVb.” Present with Dev and Rahj Tharen were Fleet Admiral Dave Trebonius-Astoris, Admiral Castor Efrata-Landis, and Admiral Shikkie Kaaran. The remaining Fleet CO’s were broadcasting from their respective combat tours thanks to Dev.

As if on cue, the chamber doors opened and the 219-year-old RSCD CO strode into the room while holding a couple datapads, gave a casual salute without really looking at anyone, and sat down in his chair. From across the table Dave shifted in his chair and spoke to the dragon. “How is the Knight Spire Garrison doing?”

The Vice Admiral’s eyes flashed as he looked up to respond to his peer. “You know me. Things are running smoothly.” And with a sarcastic smile, he added, “Only four Cadets were lost in accidents this week.” A round of quiet laughter followed and one by one, they turned their heads to Rahj Tharen to indicate they were ready to start.

“All right. We are all present, so let us address the first order of business,” said the Fleet Commander to convene the latest meeting of Rebel Squadrons High Command. “The New Republic and Mon Calamari ship yards have been gracious enough to arm us with a new MC90, and we have christened her the Rebel Starr.” Nodding in the direction of General Kyle Tobarn’s holo image, who was reporting from Bethlamore, he continued. “The Rebel Starr will of course serve as the Allegiance Battle Group’s new flagship. Fully crewed, it arrived at Bethlamore not long ago. Treat her well, General.”

Through a bit of static, the ABG CO responded. “The Starr is close to being fully operational and I think our outfit will test the ship’s limits time and time again, but we will do our best to keep her intact, Admiral. She’ll fit in nicely, Sir.”

“Excellent.” Pausing to indicate a change of topic, the Admiral continued. “Next, recent Imperial activity. Our defense patrols have intercepted a number of Imperial probe droids in the Vectain and Titania Systems. We suspect that the ones searching out the Vectain System originated from the Elornia System, where an Imperial Garrison still stands, and the ones focusing on the Titania System were launched from somewhere in the Binaural Sector. This of course does not tell us much other than it is likely that Imperial forces are coordinating with the one system still under their control that is behind our borders. Our forces in the area have been notified and we are continuing to investigate. As of yet, our counter patrols have found little information regarding their intentions, but we should have something soon. Hopefully, no aggression will come out of it, but that is usually not the case, as we all know. As further updates come in, I will forward them to you all. Questions?”

There were none. Progressing the meeting, Admiral Tharen moved on to the next order of business. “Next on the agenda are Fleet reports. You all know the drill, and Major General Slyder McGrath can begin with the PBF report.”

Acknowledging through the minimal static, the PBF CO began to report from the CRS Windstorm and reported on their progress against the White Guard. Following the PBF report was Lieutenant Generals Adam Fene and Deltan Saviri’s account on their recent successes in the L'Ronac System, both aboard the ISD Prometheus and CRS Rebel Fist respectively. Next, General Indiana Bridger, reporting from Coruscant, gave her update on the recent Aurora Force combat tour. After that, Kyle spoke of destroying a mysterious Sith planet, and General Gavin Kravis and Vice Admiral Kaz Falcion reported on recent successes in training advancement for their respective pilots and commandos. To round things off, the experienced Redemption Fleet CO and RSA CO gave details on the growing status of their Fleets which brought the Fleet reporting to an end.

As soon as Castor finished his report and questions were dealt with, the Fleet Commander finished with a quick and to the point closing comment. “With all that said, the state of the Rebel Squadrons is in pretty good shape. Meeting adjourned, you are all dismissed. May the pride and honor of the Rebel Squadrons carry on in all of you.”

As the holo-images faded out and those that were present in person exited the conference room, Admiral Shikkie Kaaran, Rebel Squadrons Executive Officer, walked over to the FC and asked, “Speaking of the state of the RS, is it done?”

Reaching into his pocket, Rahj pulled out a small datapad and started entering commands into it. Not looking up, he responded. “Yes, the State of the RS Address is all done. Just wanted to wait until after the meeting. I would have you send it, but I would not want to take away your precious time from the shooting range. I swear if you spend anymore time there, I will declare you AWOL.”

Shik responded with a chuckle, “Yes Sir.”

       “Sending it now…”

Greetings Members of the Rebel Squadrons!

Welcome to the latest installment of the State of the Rebel Squadrons Address for July and early August. Moving right ahead, let us move on to the business of this Address…

In terms of high level command changes over the course of the past month, things have been fairly stable. The only changes on High Command have been appointments to Fleet Executive Officer positions with MGN Ben Jyzner ascending to RF XO and MGN Spokes to PBF XO. The Executive Staff has gained Colonel Taan “Hawk” Ronar as the new Minister of External Affairs, and 1LT Bonaparte was added as an Assistant Operations Officer.

Next, day-to-day club news. Over the course of the preceding month, some very important projects have come to bear fruit. Most notably, the Medals Office has completed work on the new uniforms system, the Internet Office is beginning work on a number of new projects, and the Operations Office continues to impress us with new innovations as each day goes by. With each new innovation, subsequent announcements are made by email or the BBS, so be sure to keep up to date.

I am also proud to report that the Rebel Squadrons continues to earn victory after victory at the weekly Inter-Club Melee. Every week it seems these victories have been alternating between a predominately commando showing or a predominately pilot showing. Either way, every pilot and commando involved should be very proud and I would like to congratulate each and every one of you for your contributions. Furthermore, the Rebel Squadrons recently had an incredible inaugural showing at battlestat.com’s XWA Week of War. By finishing in tenth place, our pilots exceeded all expectations, and I am most impressed. Great job! Subsequent WoW’s on JO, GB, and XvT will follow, so be sure to participate! A new RS Training Night will also occur to increase MP gaming in the RS every Sunday at 6PM to 9 PM EST and Wednesday at 3 PM to 6 PM EST, both in channel #OuterRim. More on this is outlined below, but those that participate will receive RS Merit Points.

High Command is also hard at work and still going through the revision process of our Bylaws. With drafts for Section 2, 3, and 4 done and passed, work on Section 5 now ensues. Stay tuned to future HC NF’s for updates.

Like in all SotRS Addresses, you will find a report from every office in the Executive Branch. These reports should give every member a fairly good insight into the day-to-day operations and happenings of this club. The latest HC NF is posted at the end as well. Congratulations to those pilots and commandos that received medals!

This is a great resource for old and new members alike. The Rebel Squadrons Operations Manual is a summation of the basic operation of the club encompassing club structure, the Academy, ranks, promotions, glossaries, and a technical index to help members with basic gaming needs for the platforms we support. Check it out!

The Executive Officer, at the behest of Admiral Tharen, is working to get Star Wars authors into the B&G for some chat sessions, and/or some form of email interview; whichever is more convenient for the author. Currently I am seeking the following authors: Timothy Zahn, Michael A. Stackpole, Aarron Allston, Greg Keyes, and R. A. Salvatore. I have emailed Mr. Allston, but he has declined our offer, as he doesn’t have the time. I am attempting to find contact info for Mr. Zahn, Mr. Keyes, and Mr. Stackpole. Colonel Taan "Hawk" Ronar has been attempting to contact Mr. Salvatore at my request through a message board that both individuals frequent.

Also I will soon be trying to revive the somewhat stalled recruitment division, however as an Executive Project which I am heading up. The current plan is to post on message boards, and create banner exchanges with other Star Wars sites to spread the Rebel Squadrons name and website address as far as we can. Anyone wishing to assist in either endeavor can email me (rsxo@rebelsquadrons.org) and I'll give you something to do. :)

All Fleet webpages except for the RgF one have been finished. This includes the massive library of the ABG. All domain logins have been reorganized and now every Fleet has their own login as opposed to some other complications before. The RS Logo will be updated throughout the domain over the near future.

Operations Officer Report
Commander Isoldur “Dragon” Cauthon, Operations Officer

OO Website - http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/operations/
OO E-Mail - operations@rebelsquadrons.org

1. 1LT Bonaparte was hired as another Assistant Operations Officer. He brings to the Operations Office a single player background, which was lacking in the office before.

2. The Inter-Club Melee, held every Saturday, from 2-7 PM EST in channel #OuterRim on the Undernet, has been pretty successful. The event is going into its 17th week of existence. The RS has been consistently victorious, each and every week.

3. The OO Webpage (http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/operations/) is finished. All the broken links have been remedied, thanks to LGN Python, Assistant Internet Officer.

4. Negotiations are in the works for another Supremacy Series Competition. Right now, inquiries are being made as to whether the EH and the single player fleets of the RS are interested. Once this is completed, all involved parties will hammer out rules and webpages.

5. The Operations Office is now in control of the RS' Battlestats account. All RS members are encouraged to sign up for a Battlestats account under the RS and to participate in the WoW's competitions and on the Zone. More initiatives will be taken on this matter in the future, as the XWA WoW was a success in which the RS placed 10th overall.

6. An RS Melee/Training Night will begin, starting this Sunday, the 11th, from 6-9 PM EST. For more information on this new event, please go to www.rebelsquadrons.org/bbs/readMsg.php?msgID=9422.

7. And last but not least, most importantly of all the Operations Office news, work on an ORW II Proposal has been completed. The next step is to complete the new ORW II website, and then competition may begin. If anyone is interested on further information regarding the ORW II, please email operations@rebelsquadron.org.

Over the last month, there were no new cases. However, there were a couple incidents that were redirected to the proper Chain of Command (CoC). I am proud to see how well the RS membership has been presenting itself to each other and to other clubs.

Also, I am currently working with the Bylaws committee on the Section 5 rewrite.

Closing

In closing, I want to stress the following points very much, and make it a standard to end with these thoughts. If I drill this into everyone, only positive things can come out of it, but I am afraid by repeating this over and over again it could lose its meaning to you all over time.

Nonetheless, if everyone could really consider these things and follow through with it in their actions, it will always improve the state of the Rebel Squadrons. I would like to remind everyone of the challenge before us. I challenge every member in this club – every Fleet CO, every Wing CO, every Squadron CO, etc - to start working on two things: unity and communication. It all starts with you guys, and everyone knows that. If we all strive for unity, and cultivate an atmosphere of respect, internal relations in this club will improve tenfold. Imagine what we can get accomplished then? Strive to follow HIER! As for communication, I dare every person in this club to take more initiative, keep your people up to date, write more emails, and reward those where credit is due. Keep communication strong! If I can try harder in these attributes, then so can you. And if that can happen, we can make this club what we want it to be – together.

May the Force be with you and may the pride and honor of the Rebel Squadrons carry on in all of you!

Respectfully submitted,

Admiral Rahj Tharen,
Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander
