RSCD NL 08-20-02

Welcome back everyone, to the latest edition of the NL. Activity across the board seems to take a slump near the end of August, and this year’s looking to be the same. While I know most of us are busy with the start of a new year of school, I’m hoping we can turn things around quickly. We’ve got the next ORW event right around the corner, and a number of House specific activities that should be kicking off soon, so now’s the time to really get things going again. As always, if you can’t find anything to do come find me and I’ll find something for you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Up-

As stated last week, this weekend marked the last opportunity for everyone to sign up for a House and path of their choosing. For those who didn’t choose, I’ll be placing you myself, because we really can’t afford to wait any longer for responses. I’ll be adjusting our roster this week to accommodate all of the changes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Merit System Active-

The path specific merit system is now active, and below you’ll be able to find a reprint of all the ranks and the appropriate point level that corresponds with them. At the moment, the only activity with a set point limit are melee/ORW matches. Any melee/ORW match you participate in will earn you 1 merit point whether you win or lose. As for other events or activities, specific point totals to be handed out will be at the discretion of a member’s House Leader. As of now, everyone will be starting out at zero points, to make it fair for all involved. As promised, here’s the list recap:

Jedi Ranks-

· Master- (Not currently attainable) The highest title any member can achieve, Master reflects the greatest levels of wisdom and dedication. Due to these lofty requirements, only one person may hold the rank of Master within each House at any given time. For another to achieve this rank, they must either defeat the current Master in ceremonial combat, or else be named as his successor. At present, Talros Kalran and Lord Dragoth remain the Masters of their respective Houses. Due to the absence of both, no other person may be awarded this title until the time of their return.

· Knight- (500 points) The second highest title available, Knight is a rank intended to be awarded to a member who has continuously proven themselves in combat, and gone above and beyond the call of duty in furthering the success of their House. Knights have completed demanding advanced training in saber combat and the Force, and are considered the elite protectors of their House and it’s members.

· Adept- (250 points) The rank of Adept is bestowed upon those who have met the requirements needed to complete their Apprentice training, and have moved on to begin more advanced instruction at the tutelage of Knights. Adepts form the core of a House, as it is they who help new members with the first stages of training. In addition, as Knights are often called away to the far reaches of a House’s territories on business, it is Adepts who often find themselves in charge of leading others into battle.

· Apprentice- (100 points) Once an Initiate has completed the most basic levels of training, they will be eligible to attain the rank of Apprentice. While Apprentices maintain enough knowledge to defend themselves, they are still very inexperienced in terms of actual combat, requiring more extensive training before being able to aid in the defense of their House.

· Initiate- (0 points) The lowest title within a House, Initiate is the title first given to a member upon their acceptance into a House. Initiates are new to both saber combat and the use of the Force, needing extensive training before being able to ascend to higher ranks. Given the commitment needed to advance, it’s to be expected that the majority of a House’s membership is made up of Initiate level members.

Commando Ranks- While differing in their principles, both Kalran and Dragoth understood that not all conflicts could be solved with the use of a lightsaber. Because of this, each House is home to some of the most elite commandos in the galaxy. Expert marksmen with any weapon, these soldiers are every part as lethal as their Jedi brethren. Much like the Jedi, those who choose the Commando’s path will have their own set of titles to reflect advancement. The ranks are as follow:

· Master at Arms- (not currently attainable) The highest title that may be bestowed upon a commando, Master at Arms signifies the greatest achievement in armed combat. Requirements for this rank include extensive knowledge in a wide range of weaponry, as well as great skill in their use. A title generally reserved for the most elite in a House, few will ever achieve this rank during their careers.

· Paladin – (500 points) The second highest rank available to those who follow the Commando path, Paladins are known for their heroics on the field of battle. Members attaining this rank have shown great skill in combat throughout their career, and have dedicated themselves to improving in any area possible..

· Crusader – (250 points) Commandos who complete their training and pass the trials of more advanced combat are eligible for the title of Crusader. Crusaders take on many roles, including helping to train the newer commandos of a House learn the arts of war.

· Lancer – (100 points) Once a member has good knowledge of basic combat tactics, they will be ready to move onto the rank of Lancer. Even though they lack some of the advanced skills of higher ranks, Lancers typically make up the largest part of a House commando unit in battle, making them quite a useful asset.

· Recruit- (0 points) Similar to the Jedi rank of Initiate, Recruit is the title first given to a member who joins a House as a commando. Recruits are new to combat, needing extensive training under more knowledgeable members before being able to handle themselves effectively in battle.

New Members-

The following members joined our ranks since the last NL, let’s give them all a big welcome.

Gen. Petr Tagge Margul
Lt. Col. Han Suul

Congratulations and good luck on your career within the Commando Division.

Inter-Club Melee

No results to report this time around, as unfortunately I’ve been the only RSer to show up for the past two weeks. I’m a little concerned with this, and I’m curious as to where everyone else is at the moment. If you’re just too busy with work or other things on Saturdays to make it, let me know. We’ve enjoyed a large margin of success with competitions against other clubs, but we only win if we show up. It’s time to let the rest of the clubs involved see just how many of us there are. As your usual reminder, the Inter-Club melee takes place each Saturday from 2-7pm EST in #OuterRim on the Undernet.

RSCD Melee

Once again I unfortunately don’t have any scores to report for this edition. Everyone should by now know the drill on how the Melees work. Melee matches can be played against another member at any time night or day in JK/JO between Monday-Saturday of each week. Once completed, send a result of the match to rscdmelee@hotmail.com so that it can be recorded. Hopefully with the new merit system active, it’ll give some of you more of an incentive to get active. Also, don’t forget that there are medals available for those who show the most activity in competitions during the month, so if you want one all you have to do is go out and play.

RSCD Suggestions

Have an idea you think could improve the Fleet? Mabye you’ve got an idea on a competition you think would be fun, or just an overall comment on things? If you’d like to submit any comment or suggestion, feel free to send it off to rscdsuggestions@hotmail.com By sending it there, we can ensure it’s not lost in a flood of junkmail like my own account, and there’ll be a preserved record for review.

Closing-

I still think we’re all on the right track at the moment. Overall our activity is down, but I feel confident that once everyone’s settled back in school or wherever they are after the summer, that we’ll see a rise again. I’m also curious to see how many of you managed to read through this entire NL, so for anyone who did, send me an email with “I read the NL” in the subject and receive free merit points.

Till next week,
