RSCD NL 09-17-02

I had planned on the scores and results section of the NL to go out Saturday night, but when I checked the overall Melee/InterClub results for the week it just wasn’t worth wasting a NL on.

I’m not sure what the problem really is, but we’ve been seriously hurting in activity lately and I really don’t know what to do anymore. The AWOL check’s given me an idea on why some of you can’t participate as much right now, but some members couldn’t even be bothered to reply at all, which deeply concerns me. For those who replied, once again I thank you for both your response, and the honesty you showed in letting me know what other things you’ve got that come first. For those who didn’t reply, all I can say is good riddance.

I’ve been trying what I can to help the situation, but it takes more than a couple of people to promote and maintain high levels of activity in a group here in the RS. What I need is for each member of this Fleet, regardless of what Wing or Squad you’re in, to take a look at what you’ve personally accomplished here in the past few months. Ask yourself if there’s anything more you could be doing, or anything more you’d like to do within the Commando Division. Mabye you’ve got an idea for an event somewhere you think might be fun, or a design for one of our websites that might look nice. As I’ve said before, if you’ve got any comments or recommendations on improvement for any part of this Fleet, feel free to send them to rscdsuggestions@hotmail.com. I assure you that any and all suggestions will be looked at, and if it’s something we end up using, you’ll be given full credit.

With all that said, I’d like to try a totally new type of event for us. Originally this event was one of the reasons I wanted to institute a House System in the first place, but with our activity problems I didn’t want to just announce it and risk having it fail without a chance to succeed. So how do we avoid this? I’ve decided the best way is to involve as many members as possible in the creation process, to ensure all the major details are ironed out and things can move smoothly. Rather than just have this an event made up by the Fleet CO, lets try having it an event made up by the Fleet as a whole. Now then, on to what we’ll need.

First off, I need volunteers who enjoy writing. For this to work, we’re going to need a creative backstory, with a number of different plot aspects within it. I don’t want to give the idea of the story away, but rest assured it’ll be a unique experience.

Secondly and most importantly, we need people who enjoy actually playing a game and having fun while doing so. If you enjoy playing JO without it just being the usual MP 1v1, you’re the people I’m looking for.

That’s it really for now. I don’t want to overcomplicate things in any way, so we’ll develop things slowly to make sure they stay simple yet effective. If you’re interested in helping, let me know.
