PBF Newsletter – PBF 5.09 “Torpedoes Away”

CRS Windstorm – Holding Steady
Edge of the Yuen Lon System
12:33 Ship Time

The Admiral sat at his desk in his office reviewing the damage reports from the latest confrontation with the Imperial forces in the Cadrel Expanse when the comm on his desk pinged. “Yes?”

“Admiral, the Valor has just sent over their revised estimates on repair time.” Lt. Cre’shel paused briefly then continued with “They’re going to need more time for the shields, Sir.” Lt. Cre’shel had been assigned as the Admiral’s Aide only recently and she had not yet developed an accurate method for determining the mood of the CO and used caution when delivering anything that might be bad news. Not that she believed all the rumors, but, she had already replaced one desk that had died rather mysteriously....

“How much more time do they need?” Spokes asked quickly.

“At least a day.”

“Very well.” Spokes leaned back and wondered again if there had been any way to arrive sooner to assist the Valor, but they had been two jump points away and the Windstorm’s top speed was the best that they could do. Still, Valor Wing had stood firm and taken quite a beating while waiting for their arrival. “Lieutenant, have the Crew Chief prepare my shuttle and assemble a repair detail to accompany me over to the Valor. Maybe we can reduce the repair time.”

“Aye, Sir. Shall I inform the Valor?”

“Yes. And find out if there is anything specific we can bring with us.” Spokes flicked off the comm without waiting for an acknowledgment and pulled up a holovid that ran through the last three missions. He’d watched them before and he was more certain than ever that they would find the answers somewhere here in, or near, the Yuen Lon System. It still troubled him greatly that their opponent seemed to know exactly where they were and how they would react. Small consolation that the last encounter caught them by surprise.

“He’s coming over himself?” Major Acklar Maryak, the Valor’s Damage Control Officer asked. “Well, we have all the materials we need, but the extra hands will be useful. I’ll inform the Colonel. Valor out.” The Major switched off the comm and turned to his Aide. “Let the Captain and the Colonel know that Admiral Borran is coming aboard.”

CRS McGrath – Approaching Hyperpoint
Edge of the Anshife System
14:22 Ship Time

Captain Goa Lawah stood on the bridge with Colonel Vykk Tharen. “You’re certain that the Crimson Ghost can prevent any Cap Ships from spoiling our party?”

“Certain?” Vykk did not bother to hide his amusement. “No. However, I am certain that they can keep them busy long enough for us to take care of business.”

“And if they have already reinforced the Missile Plant,” the Captain sighed, “we will not be able to call them in. Will we?”

Vykk did not respond to the last question. The answer was obvious so he assumed that the question was rhetorical. “How long until we make the jump?”

“Just under two minutes.”

“Good. I’m looking forward to this.”

Captain Lawah gave the Wing Commander a sidelong look and said “You really are a pirate at heart.”
