*Word First*
By FA Super
The past few weeks have been nearly explosive for the RSCD. Under BGN Zeke Freeman’s direction, Knight Order has a new activity level that hasn’t been seen in that Jedi group in a long time. Under the skillful hand of CMDR Primlar, Paladin Company is expanding. Paladin Company’s efforts in the inter-clan competitions have put the Rebel Squadrons back on notoriety map.
The following articles provide the results of RSCD participation in recent projects, plus other reports and commentaries. The format of this Newsletter is a bit elongated to make distinctions between each of the projects. Future newsletters will prolly be more condensed, but contain the same level of information.
Also, anyone is welcome to submit articles to our future Newsletters. If appropriate (and space allowing), I will include any submissions: Factual Reports or Accounts, Fiction Stories, Fictional Accounts of actual missions played; Jokes/Humor; Status Reports, Statistics, Character or Real Life Autobiographies, original artwork, game hints, and if you are a unit commander you can also state your expectations, goals, and/or congratulations, etc. I only ask that the submission itself be about one topic. If you wish to cover more than one topic, just make more than one submission. One Merit Point will be earned for submissions when the submission is included in the Newsletter. On more point, if you submit an article or object, you must either be the author or have written permission from the author in order to submit.
For all members, please make sure to check out your profiles on the RS website. You can find your profile in a number of ways, but the easiest is to use the search function in the upper left corner of the RS homepage Rebel Squadrons. Type in your character name and then press the Profile button. (Don’t press enter or hit the search button, as this will take you to a Google search page.) Of particular note when you reach your profile: Look at your achievements box and note which badges and medals you’ve earned. Also, check out your uniform. As you earn RS-Wide medals, they will show up on your uniform. Fleet level medals do not show up on your uniform, be are viewable on the Medals link in the achievement box.
For now, enjoy the rest of the Newsletter.

*Paladin Company Report*
By CMDR Primlar
Paladin Company has made quite an improvement over the last few months, thanks to the increased level of activity among the Battlefront players. I am confident that we will continue our improvement in the online events, and I hope our efforts with Battlefront will be rewarded further once Battlefront II is released in November. If we can be active with BFII from the onset, I'm sure we will be a force to be reckoned with when competing against other gaming clubs and clans.

*ICTE*
By FA Super
The Inter-club Training Event (ICTE) happens every Saturday. RS participation is handled at this link: ICTE. Practically every game that the RS supports is playable in this event. However, for the RSCD, the most likely combat to occur in the ICTE is for the Jedi games supported by Knight Order. The following people deserve recognition for their participation in the ICTE for the month of August.
2LT Hev Randrowan, awarded the RSCD Bronze Star for having the most ICTE wins in August; and the RSCD Combat Citation and Master Cadet with Honors medal for his various activities.
CPT Devara Nomobgo, awarded the RSCD Combat Citation and the Cadet with Honors medal for her various activities.
CPT Korras, awarded the Violet Cluster, RSCD Hoth Medal of Endeavor, Valiance Combat Citation, and the Cadet with Honors medal for his various activities.
CMDR Alexander Vandross, awarded the RSCD Combat Citation for his participation.
LJG Kip Astar, awarded the Cadet with Honors medal for his graduation from the RSCD Academic System.
I’ve noticed there are a lot of new Cadets in Knight Order. Please feel free to check out the ICTE. It is a quick and fun way to reach your graduation requires (earning 3 merit points). There is no sign up. All you have to do is show up, so it’s easy to participate. Contact BGN Zeke Freeman or your immediate commanding officer if you have any questions, need technical support or even if you have suggestions about the ICTE.
(September’s ICTE awards will be issued at the end of this month and addressed in the next newsletter)

*Weeks of War 5 and 6*

Week of War competitions are handled on the Battlestats website Battlestats. RSCD participates in the Battlefront competitions. We are also able to participate in their Jedi game competitions too, but since there’s not been any activity in this area yet, I will concentrate on the Battlefront activity. In Week of War 5 we had three members participate. In Week of War 6, four members participated. Again, my goal for Week of War 7 is six members participating.
The following people deserve recognition for their participation in Weeks of War 5 and 6.

Our first Mod Map Offline Competition (MMOC) season is complete. I am pleased to say that participation in this project is higher than I anticipated. I hope everyone is enjoying the MMOC! This is still a new project, so feedback is more than welcome. I’m currently running the MMOC’s, but this duty will soon be handed off to Paladin’s Commander.

[Late update: Primlar and I have set up a database for MMOC scores on the Paladin Company Yahoo! Group. For the next MMOC, all scores should be submitted to CMDR Primlar. He will add then to our database, which we are using as the MMOC Leader Board for now. This is how we will record stats for MMOC's for the near future. Please check it out soon.]

*Resources*
By FA Super
The RSCD has several online resources available to us.
Rebel Squadrons website: Rebel Squadrons. The website is the core of the Rebel Squadrons. It manages the rosters, main message forum, ranks, medals, standings, news, joining, etc. I invite everyone to wander through the Bylaws section to go over ranks and club medals and other interesting information.
RS Commando Division website: RSCD. It serves as an introduction to the RSCD and has the link to our official roster. Much of this website is outdated. Updating this website is a lower priority right now.
RS Commando Yahoo Group website: RSCD Yahoo! Group. It has its own message board, frequently updated links and frequently updated events calendar. This website should serve as the hub for RSCD Fleet activities.
Paladin Company Yahoo Group website: Paladin Company Yahoo! Group. It has its own message board, frequently updated links, frequently updated events calendar, an on-going poll and Paladin related file(s). This website is serving as the hub for Paladin Company activities.
Dragon Squadron Yahoo Group website: Dragon Yahoo! Group. Currently, this website is underutilized. It will also prolly be renamed to remove the term “squadron”.

*Graduation Requirements*
By FA Super
In the RSCD, we have an Academic System. We place new Cadets directly into the group they’ve asked to join. To graduate, they must simple participate in that group’s activities like everyone else. Each of us earns Merit Points for our activity.
When a Cadet earns 4 Merit Points total, they graduate and are promoted to LJG (if they haven’t reached that rank or higher already). The Cadet also earns the Cadet with Honors medal.
When a Cadet earns 7 Merit Points total, they are further promoted to 2LT (if they haven’t reached that rank or higher already).
Special: If a Cadet earns 6 Merit Points total within their first week of joining, they graduate and earn the Master Cadet with Honors medal.

*Earning Merit Points*
By FA Super
There are many ways to earn Merit Points. If you are a Cadet, Merit Points apply directly to your graduation. If you are an Officer, Merit Points earn you badges. After you graduate, Merit Points do not apply directly to rank, however Commanding Officers use Merit Points as a guide for promotions. Here’s how to earn Merit Points.
-Posting 4 or more messages within a week in the RS Forum earns 1 Merit Point for that week.
-Play a game within an interclub competition earns 1 Merit Point for each reported game.
-A Victory in a game within an interclub competition earn 1 additional Merit Point for each victory reported.
-Play online with or against fellow club members (not as part of a formal competition) earns 1 Merit Point for each day of the activity.

-2nd Place Victory in a RSCD Competition earns 1 additional Merit Point.
-1St Place Victory in a RSCD Competition earns 3 additional Merit Points.
-Best Overall Individual Performance (such as Master Commando) in a RSCD Competition earns 1 Merit Point.
-Additional opportunities for Merit Points may be included in RSCD Competitions, as detailed in that competition.
-Any other activities that further the cause of the RSCD will be granted Merit Points at the discretion of the Wing Commanders (Primlar or Zeke Freeman) or Fleet Commanding Officer (Super).

*Base Closures*
By FA Super
As of August 25, 2005, I ordered the closure of the Katarn group. The Katarns started off as a Dark Forces group way back in the day. As the popularity and support for Dark Forces waned, they began to expand their activities into creativity writing. Somewhere along the line, they transitioned completely into a writing group instead of a gaming group. Over the years they represented much of the activity in the RSCD. At times, the Katarns were the only active group. Their closue was necessary because they had finally reached a point where they could continue on further. They lasted just long enough to hand of the torch to a new breed of RSCD members in the renewed Knight Order and the practically restarted Paladin Company. I asked that we all strive to make these groups successive, not only for ourselves, but in honor of those who came before us. The final Katarn Newsletter is found here: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/news/read.php?id=747.
In honor of this long history, the Katarn Crescent medal description was changed from referring to a specific type of participation to become the following, “[Awarded] for continuous and eager participation in the RSCD competitions or other projects conducted over a period of time. This medal is named in honor of the Katarns, who pulled the RSCD through the good and the tough times because of their willingness to keep in the fight.” This change allows any consistently active member of the RSCD may be eligible for this medal over time.
Thank you Katarns one and all. The Katarn Monument is found at this site: Katarn Memorial

*Korras Enters*
By CPT Korras
The headache was killing him. The explosion had sent a piece of brick into the side of his head, and he had had no time yet to heal it. Fine then, he’d take it out on the imperials then.
And they were more then aware of the result. His team, Dragon Guard, had trouble keeping up with him, even though the only thing they had to do was cleaning up the leftovers he left behind.
Two days ago, news had reached them about an Imperial Remnant listening post in the area. Sparing no time, Knight Order had dispatched. Initially being calm and controlled, Korras had carefully planned his way in. but, some stragglers had set up a trap, and somehow, he’d walked right into it, taking a large piece of wall in the side of his head. The taste of his own blood, the pain, and the anger triggered a blood rage. All sorts of planning went right out the door, and he simply killed everything that wore an imperial uniform that came in sight. An officer raised a vibroblade, attempting to stop him. His lightsaber went right through it, and his throat. A junior engineer tried to run, but was slammed into the wall with some telekinesis.
They made their way to the control post, some way. The thought of more blood spilled drove him into a charge, but this time, he was pulled back, telekinetically. He twisted around. Who dared to stop him this way? Through bloodshot eyes, he saw the form of Zeke Freeman. Finally, a worthy opponent. He charged.
“Snap out of it, Korras!”, Zeke yelled. No reaction. Like a furious demon, he came straight at him, lightsabers at the ready, but not concerned at all with defense. Raising his arm, Zeke directed him into a wall, holding him there, immobile, until he calmed down.
It took a bit. When his eyes turned normal again, Zeke let him down from the wall again. “Feeling any better?”
“I’d assume. Don’t tell me it happened again.”
“It did. You slammed through them like a demon on a rampage. On the good side, you did break a breach in their defenses. But you were about to kill these too,” Zeke motioned at the engineers in the control room. “Without them, we would not be able to access their systems, or at least be delayed a good while.”
He sighed. “Seems like the attempt to stop it again failed. We really need to find something to prevent you from entering that blood lust.”
Korras nodded. “I don’t know why it keeps happening. It’s hard to shake ones’ past, I guess, especially if it’s most you’ve ever known.”
“oooh! Bling bling machina! Mesa shall do work with thesa!”
The Gungan. He was already well on his way to touching the equipment, and both Korras and Zeke knew what the result would be if they let Hev touch them. “NOOOO!”

*Shadow Guard Report (with info that is important to all of Knight Order)*
By CPT Korras
Welcome to my little part of this newsletter. As most of you know, I am the CO of Shadow Guard, and the SO of Knight Order. First of all, I’d like to inform you that the Jedi Academy Week of War starts Friday. I will be participating, and I all else who do so will be awarded appropriately.
Next up, ICTE. Hev (who managed to play an insane amount of matches. Yay Hev!) and Kip Astar (YAY!) have both managed to graduate with this, and on top of that, it’s a very easy way to earn yourself some extra medals, and shineys on your uniforms.
I will be playing this ICTE, and I fully expect to see some others as well. I will be contacting each and every one of Shadow Guard again, so expect me to be talking to you soon.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to mail me, or contact me on AIM (AngryKlingon).
Finally, I have talked to the server owners of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, and we have permission to use their JA servers as default servers. This means: no more looking around for servers to play on. These run from a dedicated gaming machine, and are ‘Pure’, ie: you can not run custom mods on them, unless they are installed on the server as well. This is done to prevent people from cheating by using regenerative health and longer saber blades, for example.
The info on those:
JA+: 72.21.60.114:29071
JA Reloaded: 72.21.60.116:29070
The password for both is ‘DJBJA’.
You can often find me in #rscd on undernet if you are looking for matches. During the ICTE, you can find me in #outerrim.
Again, my office door is always open, so if you got anything to talk about, feel free to contact me.
