IBG NL
31 January 2006

Pilots,

Time has come for me to write my last NL as IBG CO. When this mail is sent, I'll step down from this position, and return to my fellow Daggers aboard the Kalinga. But now, let's get to it.

1. IBG Bonus 3

We were as low as 12 reporting pilots this time. I'd hoped to see more reports in, but it seems the bonus missios aren't regarded as being as important as the main ITOD missions. Anyway, thanks to the 12 pilots that took the time to fly and report on this one. Shaolin came with full guns blazing and swept all competition away. Nice work, shaolin!

The standings ended like this:

Rank/Pilot/Squadron/Score/Kills
1.LCM shaolin/Phalcun/22,778/40
2.MGN Himm El-Syna/Dagger/15,183/48
3.LCL jcmcgoo/Draco/14,052/32
4.BGN Joshua Hawkins/Phalcun/11,675/13
5.BGN Chris Horn "Kicks"/Dagger/11,304/16
6.MAJ Hermann/Wildcard/9,274/5
7.1LT jelf boom/Dagger/4,007/27
8.BGN James "Nightwolf" Davidson/Wildcard/3,800/14
9.1LT Jaja Darksight/Dagger/2,727/5
10.COL Reabel/Phalcun/1,868/5
11.CMDR Primlar/Draco/323/6
12.LCL Anton "Ups" Nels/Phalcun/0/0

As this was also the final bonus mission for Tour 5, we can present the Top 5 pilots for this mini-tour.

Pilot/Score/Kills/Reports
LCM shaolin/33,088/50/3
MGN Himm El-Syna/25,791/73/3
BGN Chris Horn "Kicks"/20,921/28/3
MAJ Hermann/16,295/8/3
LCL jcmcgoo/14,052/32/2

Well done, pilots! Merits have been awarded for mission 3 and for the tour. We have announced a special medal for those pilots that reported in on all three bonus missions. These pilots are: shaolin, Kicks, Hermann, Reabel, Primlar and myself. The patch will look like this: =*IBG/B1*= and will be awarded as soon as the IO gets around to make it available. Congratulations to each of you - this is a one time only medal, so were it with pride.

2. ITOD 6

Some works still remains before the next tour is ready. Also, due to the change in leadership, I expect there will be some waiting before the first mission is released. In the meantime, go look at our Forum, and you will see that Anton has initiated a nice competition for us to enjoy while we wait. It's a classic simulator mission, so here you get a chance to do something different from the usual imp hunting.

3. MP

A friendly reminder that LIC is still up and running. Medals and merits to be won, and fun to be had with your friends. If you go for a match, remember it can be a lot more than the standard 1 vs 1 thingy in a squint or an eyeball. You can fly all available crafts, add AI crafts if you like to, and then suddenly things get far more exciting. Also, try to edit the ships list file, and slug it out in a MC-80!

4. Wrap up

Then I'm done. It's almost two years now since I was appointed the IBG Commanding Officer. It's been two years of fun, and I want to say thank you to each one of you that have made it possible. Without pilots actually flying, reporting, doing MP matches, being present in #IBG and so on, no fun would have come of it. There have been ups and downs in this period, but playing a game ten years old, I think nothing else can be expected.

Sometimes I've wished for more active members, but then again, this is part of the RS freedom as I see it; you yourself decide how much time you want to spend on the fellowship, and as we all have a RL, this will naturally vary a bit. So for a period you can be active and do a lot, then there will be days and weeks in between when you barely offer the whole thing a thought. The good thing is that you can almost always be certain that you have friends a few keystrokes away - join #IBG, and there you go.

It's also a very nice thing to get to know people from "all over the world"! Now, when I eat breakfast with argentinian honey on my piece of bread, I send a thought to Hermann in Argentina. When I watch the latest episode of "Heartbeat" on a Saturday night with my wife, I think of Phil. When I dream of "The Big Wilderness Adventure" in a canoe down one of the big canadian rivers, I think of Reabel. When I receive a shipment of books for my store from my supplier in Tennessee, I think of Anton as I see the UPS labels on the boxes. This summer I hope to go to Spain for a vacation, and hopefully I'll then meet Gab and Ceph. When the network at work goes down, I wish Mystic was around to help me out. And if my wife gets the chance to take part in a session in the UN sometimes over the next few years, then I know I'll join her for a trip "over there" and see if I can get a chance to meet my long-time squadmates and fellow Daggers Ton, Spokes and Kicks. And so I could go on. It's fun to think of things this way. And of course, should any of you ever visit such an exotic place as Norway, then I hope you'll let me know.
I'm not resigning, so I'll not put up a long list of thanks and goodbyes. I want to say thank to my staff, both those now in it and those who had a position earlier. Without the dedication and work you've put into ut, this would've been no fun. Your encouragement and support has been crucial. I hope the next CO will be blessed with such good officers as I have.
Finally, I want to say a special thank to Spokes and Ton. For four years now we've flown alongside each other on numerous missions. We've shared a lot of fun, and your friendship has been invaluable for me also in my role as IBG CO.

Well, that's got to be it. Now I've got an X-wing over in Kalinga's hangar bay waiting for my return, so I'd better be going. Happy flying to you all!
