Rebel Squadrons Newsletter - May '06
":)
Greetings Gentle Beings:
I trust that this finds you hale and whole as you serve the Fleets of the Rebel Squadrons.
First, an update from High Command. High Command has been quiet of late and has prodded me to address the Club and be more visible to the membership. To that end, I am usually available on X-Fire as RS_Spokes and can be found by searching for "spokes." Feel free to add me to your Friends List and contact me if you need to do so. Those of you who have already done so know that this method works. X-Fire has the additional benefit of tracking each players game time, when you are logged on and playing, and this is a helpful tool for me to see who is active and in which games. You'll be mildly impressed to see that Codyman has racked up 887 hours of Minesweeper without ever actually playing the game! I suggest that y'all take advantage of all that X-Fire has to offer. Check it out at www.xfire.com and see if you like it as much as I do.
Starting with this Newsletter, one Fleet will be featured so that the entire Club will have an idea of what is going on around the RS. The Patriot Battle Fleet (PBF) is currently flying Mission 6.12 to close out its Sixth ITOD. That's 72+ missions on our Club's oldest game. A lot of history and a lot of fun. BGN Joshua Hawkins has been making some Squad and Wing consolidation decisions in preparation for the Seventh ITOD. We are also going to begin our much discussed and long delayed experiment with Fleet consolidation by folding the R2F into the PBF. Colonel Max Cal has already been added to the PBF CS, so they will be ready to address anything that comes up and make the transition as smooth as possible.
I am pleased to announce that all three of our newest members members of High Command have taken to their new commans quite well. To that end, Anton "Ups" Nels is also hereby promoted to the Rank of Brigadier General with all the rights and privileges due therewith. David "Tenacious 'D'" is also hereby promoted to the Rank of Brigadier General with all the rights and privileges due therewith. Joshua Hawkins is hereby promoted to the rank of Major General with all the rights and privileges due therewith. Congratulations and thanks for stepping up and doing a solid job.
I am also pleased to announce that we have only one vacant spot left on the Executive Staff that needs to be filled. Anyone interested in serving the RS as its Operations Officer should apply or contact me or Blaster. Major David Vaughn, who has returned after a long, long LOA, has jumped in with both feet and taken on the task of the Logistics Officer. Each Fleet CO will be hearing from him as he compliles a thorough history of missions flown, ships used, and general storylines. Should be a very useful resource for our ITOD Teams. Lt. Colonel Rekio Corsair Tarentae has also joined as the Assistant LO and will be focusing his efforts on the Order of Battle. Colonel Max Cal, in addition to is duties as PBF SO and our TIE Fighter Pilots, will serve as our Historical Officer. Hopefully, a full Executive Staff will help make us a bit more productive.
Last bit of news on the Executive Staff is the Rear Admiral Snappleguy will be stepping down from the position as RSIO very soon. I can't begin to describe what a valuable asset he has been to the RS, so I'll leave the task of saying "Thanks!" to all of you who use the Forums and have enjoyed using our website and database. Snap and Licah are responsible for much of what we use daily, so don't take it for granted. Snap will be staying on to maintain the server and collect donations to defer the costs, so we are not losing him to RL completely.
Anyone who thinks they have the skills and time to take over this position needs to contact me, Blaster or Snap, as soon as possible so that we can make use of Snap's remaining time as RSIO to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Lastly, as we continue to consider making changes to the Rebel Squadrons, you should check out http://wiki.rebelsquadrons.org/Main_Page to see what is being considered and to add any ideas that you have. Remember that this is our Club and we want it structured to best meet our needs.
I am sure that I have missed something or someone, but it is my intention to continue this type of communication with the members of the Rebel Squadrons frequently. So, if there is something you want addressed, contact me.
Congratulations everyone! Out for now.
