Greetings Members of the Rebel Squadrons,

I'm pleased to be able to introduce myself to all of you as the new Fleet Commander. As Josh reported to you earlier, I was recently elected by our High Command. I would like to thank High Command for their vote of confidence in my abilities, and I also thank the other candidates in the election for their dedication to the RS and interest in serving. It is a great honor to be serving all of you in this way.

For those who do not know me, my name is Dave. I have been an RS member since June of 1996 and held numerous positions in the RS over the course of my time here. I was FC once before (2000-2001), and I hope here in my second tenure to accomplish even greater things. One of my goals as FC is to communicate on a regular basis with all of you. You will be hearing from me quite a bit, and I would also love to hear from you. If you have questions or want to discuss any issue with me, please feel free to email me or catch me on IRC. Consider my door open!

I have a couple of important announcements to share with you all at this point. During the past few weeks, High Command approved some important changes to the RS Bylaws which have not yet been publicized. The first change was to Section 3 - Fleet Structure. To summarize the change, High Command declared Wings to be optional. In other words, Fleets may contain Wings, or may choose not to divide up their squadrons, depending on the decision of the Fleet's Commanding Officer. You may see the exact new wording for this bylaw here: Bylaws. The primary changes are to sections 3.1 and 3.5.

The other important and recent change is the addition of another rank to the RS' rank system. High Command voted to add the rank of Commodore. This rank is both new and old. An old RS ranking system that was in use in the late 1990s included Commodore, and High Command has decided that the rank is worth having again. Commodore has been added between the ranks of General and Rear Admiral. No individuals' ranks were changed because of this addition - there is simply one more rank in the system now. You may see Commodore in the new rank system in Section 4.6 of the bylaws here: Bylaws.

That's all of the news that I have for you right now. You will all be hearing more from me within the next few days, including a full-scale RS Newsletter which will summarize the state of the club.

Reach for the stars, and you will find that you can often catch them!

":)
