Over the past few months/weeks, General Raven and I have been at work developing and implementing the RS fictional timeline. We have currently completed that project.

From here on in you will notice dates being assigned to narratives and missions, these are in-character dates using the Galactic Standard Calendar. It is an unusual calendar that diverges from our normal everyday calendar, so therefore it makes sense to explain the peculiarities of it.

As a picture is worth a roughly proportionate amount of words, here is a link to a graphical representation of the Star Wars in-character calendar year:

http://wiki.rebelsquadrons.org/Calendar

* Note that there are ten months in a standard yeah, each of which contain thirty-five days.
* Each week is a group of five days.
* There are several times in the year which are not governed by months, such as the three festival weeks, and the three stand-alone holidays.

Now, to help maintain a suitable momentum for the club's fictional progression through the Star Wars timeline, we are using a ratio of approximately 3:1 (it's actually 14:5), where one month of real time approximately equals ten days in-universe time. There are many reasons for this, the most pertinent being that we want to proceed through the timeline at a fairly good pace, without rushing through or getting bogged down with it. You will find that we will be incorporating elements of the Expanded Universe timeline into our fictional narrative, even if only as background context.

The current date (or at least, once VSG/RID 101 and Tour 1 is officially released) is 44:2:27.

The years we are using are not the BBY/ABY system (years Before and After the Battle of Yavin, respectively), as that system is not invented until some twenty-five years after the said battle, in the New Jedi Order series.

So for the most part, galactic denizens (including the New Republic and its subsidiaries, i.e. us) use the dating system of the Great ReSyncrhonisation. The Great ReSyncrhonisation was an attempt at doing away with all the disparate calendars in use during the Old Republic, all of which were highly different, and many of which were in use as 'official' in some context.

Year 0 of the Great ReSynchronisation (0GrS, as it is written) was approximately thirty-five years before the Battle of Yavin (over a decade before the break-out of the Clone Wars).

Years of the Great ReSynchronisation are written 5GrS, for example, but specific dates drop the GrS, for example: 5:2:21.

Years set before the Great ReSynchronisation are dubbed Before ReSynchronisation, and are written thus: 5BrS (note that neither GrS nor BrS have spaces between them and the year number). Dates of these times are written with a minus sign, i.e. -5:2:21. The only person currently born in negative years is Dave, though. :P

Also, a nifty thing about the calendar system, is that you can provide as little or as much detail as you want without specifying so. Starting at the highest time unit (years), you work your day down with colon separators, so 44:2 is Month 2 of 44GrS; 44:2:16 is Day 16 of Month 2 of 44GrS; 44:2:16:12 is Hour 12 of Day 16 of Month 2 of 44GrS, and so on.

If you are looking to assign in-universe dates to anything (missions, narratives, whatever), then contact the Logistics Office, as we have all of this data on-file. Eventually when we finish setting up an online calendar system, you will be able to have some more autonomy, but for now it is the domain of the Logistics Office.

And now, an example of the dating system used with the fictional history of the RS, noting highlighted points:

Purty. At least now, the history of the RS can be accurately traced and any future actions properly carried out without contradicting previous events etc.

Nice work! ":)

I'm so glad to have the distinction of being the only one born BrS. :P You did a great job compiling this system, Vaughan.
