Greetings RSers,

This is not an easy announcement to write. I am seeking nominations for the position of Fleet Commander because I myself will be resigning the FC's chair. I have had the distinct pleasure of being your Fleet Commander since October of 2006, and have thoroughly enjoyed the chance to lead the Rebel Squadrons through many competitions and activities since then. However, I feel that it is time that somebody else took over the reins of leadership - somebody who will lead the RS on to even greater and better things. I therefore announce my resignation from the position of Fleet Commander.

I will not, however, be disappearing on you either now or in the foreseeable future. First and foremost, I plan to remain in my position until a new Fleet Commander is elected. This means that my first task is to ask for nominations for the position. Please email me at fc@rebelsquadrons.org with a nomination if you have one. You may either nominate yourself or somebody else. What does the Fleet Commander do? Review this excerpt from our Bylaws (section 2.4):

"The Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander (FC) is the individual with the highest executive authority in the RS.
This officer will execute the mission statement of the RS to the full extent of his or her abilities at all times; shall be responsible for ensuring the effective operations of HC, for facilitating smooth day-to-day operations of the RS, and shall be elected, or removed from office, by a simple majority vote of HC members. The FC does not have a vote in HC, except as a tiebreaker. Under this circumstance the FC should strive to resolve the deadlocked vote by way of the best compromise available.
It is intended that the FC should be selected from current or previous members of the High Command, and that this officer be a previous or active Fleet Commanding Officer. Should the FC be a Fleet Commanding Officer at the time they are voted in to the position, he or she is expected to resign from command of his/her Fleet, and the FC position should be his or her only major command responsibility."

The position of Fleet Commander is one of the most important in the RS. The FC, as the bylaws suggest, is the highest executive authority, but he also bears the highest responsibility for leadership. He is a servant to every member in this club and when accepting his position agrees to pursue all new ideas and avenues for activity which may help the RS to offer a more enjoyable experience to its members. If you believe you have the vision, energy, and motivation to do this job, please apply. I will accept nominations until Sunday the 22nd, or longer if there is demand for more time. After all the nominations are in, High Command will take some time to question the candidates, and then will elect the new FC from among them. After that is done I will present the new FC to you all, and write up some appropriate farewell remarks.

Until then, let me just say again that it has been a pleasure to serve you all as FC.

":)

Sir,

Just let me say it been an honor having you as our FC. I also hope that your successor is as open minded and as willing to share his or hers input as well as ideas.
