ISD Redemption -- 44:4:21

“Whoa! What a rush! I forgot what that was like,” Lieutenant Colonel Kirghy Lommax said as he walked toward the pilot ready room. Beside him was his new CO, Lieutenant Commander Gavin Starseeker, who gave a light chuckle at Kirghy’s obviously excited remarks.

“Well, we certainly try out here. You did well for not having been in a cockpit a while. In fact-“

“Colonel Lommax!” came a voice across the hanger. Looking in the direction of the voice, the two men saw a young lieutenant running towards them.

Kirghy approached him. “What do you need? Something wrong?”

The man, now stopped, shook his head and tried to catch his breath. “No, sir. I was sent by Admiral Raven. You’re needed in the main communications center immediately. I was told that it was urgent.”

A look at Seeks revealed that he was as confused as Kirghy was. “Hey, I don’t know what’s going on, either, but I don’t think you should keep him waiting.”

“Yeah, I get that.” Looking to the Lt., Kirghy asked, “You said the main communications center?”

“Yes, sir. If you’ll just follow me, I’ll-“

Kirghy cut him off with a wave of his hand. “That won’t be necessary. I’m from Kuat. I know my way around a Star Destroyer. Take a breather.” With that, Kirghy took off at a light jog for the nearest turbolift.

The whoosh of the doors was practically the only sound as Kirghy entered the communications center. There, surrounding a holoprojector, were two men, Rear Admiral Michael Raven, commander of the Subterrel Strike Force, and the commander of the Redemption, General Harley Quinn. Quickly, he snapped off a salute that was just as quickly returned. “You wished to see me Admiral?”

“Yes, Colonel, I did. Please, join us. This section of the briefing concerns you, and we thought if prudent that you actually be here,” replied Raven as he motioned towards the holoprojector.

Kirghy hadn’t realized they were actually in communication with someone. His view of the holoprojector had been obstructed by Raven and Quinn, but now he saw quite clearly who they were talking to. Before him now was the image of the RS FC, Fleet Admiral Dave Trebonious-Astoris.

“I believe we have something to discuss, Colonel.”

ISD Redemption – 44:4:25

Kirghy looked at himself in the mirror. In the matter of a couple of days, he had went from a nobody pilot to the Commander of the Starfighter Group of the Subterrel Strike Force. His red, VSG uniform now sported three gold stars on the collar, the symbol of his new position. He looked around the new quarters he’d been provided. Since he was in charge of all the SSF’s starfighter operations, he had been moved to the ships Flag deck. That, and he reported directly to Raven.

Such is life. Things happen when you least expect them. And this certainly classifies as unexpected.

His reverie was interrupted by the voice of the same lieutenant who had fetched him in the hanger days ago. “Sir, the pilots are assembled in the briefing room as ordered.”

“Thank you, Lieutenant. Inform General Pasiechnyk that I’ll be there shortly.”

The lieutenant snapped off a salute and left. Kirghy, realizing that he couldn’t put this off anymore, headed towards the nearest turbolift.

May God have mercy on my soul…

Greetings pilots. Sorry for the long fictional piece, but I thought it necessary for, as Vaughan likes to put it, ‘continuity’. This newsletter’s a little on the late side, but that couldn’t be helped as I am busy transitioning to my new role as your CO. Anyway, on to the news!

1. ITOD

VSG 105

Well, it appears as if the summer slump continues with only 43.75% of the active pilots reporting on the mission. Some of this could have been the result of the buggy XWA mission. Vaughan has taken responsibility for that one, so drinks are on him. Hopefully, the turnout will be much higher for 106.
There were only 2 mission narratives for this mission. However, the MRM will not be awarded this time due to the disruption of operations by the absence of a CO at the end of the mission. Both writers were awarded 4 merit points.

Medals:
MRM: Waived for this mission.
Top Gun: This time we have a tie. General Harley Quinn and for the second time in a row, Lieutenant Commander Gavin Starseeker are both the Top Gun for 105 with each having 17 merits. Congrats! Drinks are on them!
Top Squadron: Ragnarok with 112, Dragon in second with 74. That’s two in a row for Ragnarok. Could we be seeing a run a Dragon’s record of 3 straight? Can another squad step up and knock Ragnarok out of the top spot?

2. MP Activity

Well, unfortunately there was no activity on the MP front this time. However, ICTE is going on in #outerrim every Saturday. Also, there is an XWA WoW, hosted by BattleStats.com, underway now. If you don’t want to do that, get together with a fellow pilot and do a 1v1 or a co-op mission. Remember: MP matches get you merits towards Top Gun and Top Squadron.

3. Promotions

None at this time.

4. Closing

I understand that this has been a difficult time for the VSG. Not only is activity low, but you have had to deal with changing COs on a regular basis and buggy missions (which I think can be stopped if we can keep Vaughan from ‘tinkering’ with them. ;) ). I would like to thank Heavy for the time he’s put forth as the Acting CO and now as something of an…advisor, for lack of a better word, for me as I take the helm. Be prepared for 106. It should be released shortly.

Peace, love, and beating little kids with big sticks,

LCL Kirghy “Kirgs” Lommax
VSG CO
