The holographic image of a stern-looking New Republic officer was hovering in the air of the Dragon Squadron Commanding Officer's quarters. Commander Kane Redron was standing next to it at rapt attention. After a number of days free of combat, the Dragon Squadron commander had been called by the Subterrel Strike Force leader, Admiral Raven, to lead a recovery mission. Strike force intel had apparently found a prison station where it was believed a number of the strike force's personnel were being held prisoner.

"As I said, Dragon Squadron will go in, clear the defenses, cover the commandos, then leave." the Admiral was finishing giving the starfighter commander the initial briefing.

"I'll have to group the squad. Shouldn't take too long." the junior commander nodded. "When is the mission scheduled?"

"Thirty minutes from now." the Admiral replied bluntly.

"WHAT?!" Kane exclaimed before he struggled to maintain his composure. "I mean, uh, did I hear you right, sir?"

The Admiral was not amused. "You heard me. Half an hour to get your men and get them out of the Resurrection's hangar." the Admiral frowned at Commander Redron's obvious discomfiture. "Unless you don't think your squadron can handle it? I'm sure Ragnarok on the Ad Astra would be more than happy to---"

"No! Not at all, sir. Dragon will get the job done."

"Good." Admiral Raven's stare bored through the hologram into the commander's skull. "You'll have one shot at this. Don't kriff it up. Redemption out."

"Dragon out." Kane replied listlessly. What had he done? What had the Admiral done? Had they doomed the entire squadron? There was only one way to find out. "Right. Just have to make sure we do our jobs well enough so that this doesn't end in disaster."

Ten minutes later, the pilots of Dragon Squadron were assembled in the Resurrection II's briefing amphitheatre.

Standing at the podium, Commander Redron waited until the last of the pilots had filed in.

"Thank you make it here in such short notice. We are short on time so I'll just cut right to it. Intelligence have discovered a Rogue Imperial station that they believe have some of our captured men. The Admiral wants us to go in and rescue them."

The various pilots nodded in understanding.

"Now listen carefully. There will be only time to play it once, and then we have to run to the hangar. Any questions can wait until we're space-born. Okay, here's the briefing . . ."

As the lights dimmed and the holographic briefing commenced, the pilots readied themselves for the mission. Fortunately it was 1400 hours, so the pilots were well-awake and ready for action.

================================================================

Some basic information about this mission:

1) The mission is versatile, being both a single-player and multiplayer mission. The multiplayer version increases in difficulty exponentially with each extra non-AI player than joins. The maximum number of players is five.

2) The mission is to be run on any difficulty setting, with Collisions On, Randomise Off, and Unlimited Weapons Off (or anything else that could be construed as an unfair advantage).

3) Every pilot who flies the mission is expected to report their first run through the mission, whether pass or fail, including a brief summary of what happened (Did you win? Did you lose? Which ships blew up?). If you want to write a full-fledged narrative, then all the better.

4) This mission is intended for Dragon Squadron, however it is open to other pilots to participate in.

5) All reports are to be sent to me at diablo83131@hotmail.com. Screenshots of the debriefing screen and details are to be sent, also.

6) The mission and accompanying files will be sent to you via e-mail.

7) The due date for this mission is the 20th of November. But don't wait until then; fly as soon as possible. Multiplayer runs are encouraged more than single-player runs, if possible.

8) I have various criteria for awards, beyond the obvious categories, so be sure to report as quickly as possible, kill as much as possible, and try to get as many people to fly with you as possible.
