ABG Newsflash, 5/1/08
Members of the ABG --
Just a quick line here to let you know a few things going on with the fleet, etc.
First, Cyrel and I got promoted by the FC. We're both Rear Admirals now. Any homosexual insinuations will be dealt with accordingly. ::Sconn shakes fist:: Also, you have to address us as Sir from now on until I no longer think it's funny.
Second, Mike's on LOA. Leave him alone with the ABG questions for a while. I'll be acting CO for as long as it lasts, everything's fine, please remain calm. The fleet is in capable, if rarely sober, hands. I'll make an attempt to be on IRC after work most weeknights (~930 EST M-TH), for an hour or two at least. Any other questions can be directed to my e-mail address, sconnrs@gmail.com, which is really the best and easiest way to get my attention, to be honest.
Third, check out the new RS Forums! Not just because the RSIO, Josh, recently gave them an overhaul, but also because of a couple pertinent threads I'd like y'all to at least be aware of:
-- Mike's started a thread for suggestions on the rules, or design system, or general things you'd like to see. Right here!
--Rhu's started a thread about a new campaign he'd like to run, more of an "adventurer" style campaign. I was talking to him about it a little bit and it seems like a pretty cool idea. That thread can be found

He's only accepting a limited number of simmers because we're giving this thing a trial run, so if you'd like to be involved (and I highly recommend it) look him up.

Fourth, #allegience. We have, traditionally, upheld a pretty laid-back attitude in #allegience as far as attempting to enforce any kind of "rules" or anything. Well, it has, in my opinion gotten a little uncomfortable at some times in the last...six months or so. And seriously, when a comment makes ME uncomfortable, it's probably in bad taste. I'd like to take this opportunity here to remind people that we DO have members who are under the age of 18. To that end, I'm not going to lay down any sort of "you can say this, you cannot say this" type rules -- just keep it in good taste, at least before midnight EST. Lay off the sexual innuendo, and for the love of god, don't paste links to child pornography (...okay, nobody's done that, but it's always good to mention). It's not only an issue of offending someone's sensibilities or protecting minors, but also, how does it look for a new member to pop into #allegience and Markus is waxing poetic about his Gungan fetish in extremely graphic terms? So let's grow up a bit y'all. I, for my part, will be curtailing my habit of getting drunk and using racial slurs, as well as asking #allegience ops to enforce this type of thing a bit more strictly prior to midnight EST. After hours, all bets are off. I'm trusting our ops to exercise good judgment during those hours. Infractions can be expected to be punished in the following ways (at op discretion):
1st offense -- kick
2nd offense -- kick, ban. At this point, the op should send me the log and we'll review it and determine from there.
Likewise, any complaints you have about content in #allegience can be referred to me or the MoJ, depending on your estimation of the severity. Make sure you have logs.

I'm not trying to be a Nazi guys, but...c'mon, you all know what I'm talking about. Don't be stupid and it'll be fine.
Finally, since I don't want to end this thing on kind of a downer, here's what's coming up in the near future -- tons of projects. There's a HUGE addition to the rules coming through the pipeline that will add SO much to our character customization, you're all gonna love it. I've gotten a sneak peek at what's being worked on, and it looks awesome. We're looking at ways to expand what we do here in the ABG, maybe trying out some alternate storylines, time periods, alignments, etc, new ways to sim, etc. Rhu's trying out his adventurer thing, which looks awesome, and I'm gonna start working with some Renegade/Fringe type sims soon. Another thing I'd like to mention is an idea I was kicking around in the fall before my old computer died would be an ABG unit set during the large-scale conflict that's going on in the main Rebel Squadrons' storyline. If you're interested in this type of unit, let me know. If there's enough interest, I'll take it up with the Logistics Officer and find out what we need to do to get it off the ground.
