Gold Squadron Newsletter
April 29, 2012

=== CO's Ramble ===

This newsletter comes a week later than planned, but I still got it in before the next session! Anyway, it's been yet another fantastic month for Gold with our third straight session of 6+ members reporting activity. Depending on how the session is scored this time around (it seems to vary), we'll snag first place or second behind ol' Renegade. They have both more points and a higher reporting percentage, but we're top squad in total number of individuals reporting. Congrats, Gold!

Regarding our session activity, I kinda dropped the ball on it after the last round of posting; as such, I'm leaving it up for the next session as well. I'll award participation points near the end of the session, with Ace and Nicolai already having some points waiting for them. Further details on the activity are below in the Squadron Activity section.

To close, Nicolai wrote two excellent pieces of fiction during the session, receiving an activity point for each. Both are posted in the ongoing Gold Squadron fiction thread here and here.

If anyone else wishes to write fiction, feel free to post it there. Rules for the fiction are outlined in the Fiction Writing section below. I'll see to it that points are awarded for any new fiction as soon as I can.

Go for the Gold!

- Major Hermus Dogan

=== Words from the XO ===

Hey all as summer approaches those of us that have yards and things to maintain we start to venture outside more and more to take care of these items.. But let us not forget the brotherhood that we have forged here in the RS and try our best to continue to be part of the team. I have no excuse other than i just haven't dusted off my old game disks and jumped through the hoops of installing the old games on windows 7...lol. Have a great Late spring and Keep up the good work...GO GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Colonel JcMcGoO

=== Squadron Status ===

I ran an AWOL check last session at the request of Admiral Hawkins. Everyone was already confirmed active except for FBK and Dragos. FBK contacted me towards the end of the check, but I received no word from Dragos. With no word from him and zero activity since last summer, he's been dropped from the squadron.

Gold currently has nine members.

=== Activity ===

For the second session in a row we had 77.8% of the squadron reporting some sort of activity. Let's try pushing that higher for the next session!

From the leader board:

Ace Antilles - 3.6 SP points, 9.6 MP points
Anubis - 15 MP points
Darth Gumbo - 26.4 MP points
Domeno - 55.2 MP points
Hermus Dogan - 7.2 SP points, 30 MP points
InterlinkKnight - 4.2 SP points, 22.8 MP points
Nicolai Ginofev - 2 SP points, 36 MP points

Next session starts sometime this weekend, May 5th and 6th.

=== Promotions ===

We've got some promotions to cover this month, so here we go!

Second Lieutenant Ace Antilles: For your activity in both XWA single and multiplayer missions/matches and even jumping in to start building a new mission, I hereby promote you to the rank of First Lieutenant. Congrats!

First Lieutenant Domeno: For your high levels of activity in the last three sessions and stepping up as an Assistant Game Master in the ABG, I'm promoting you to Captain. Keep it up!

Major Darth Gumbo: You've been very active in the ABG during the past two sessions, and while I don't sim myself I do take notice of your reported activity. I didn't think I could promote you since we're the same rank, but I was wrong. Congrats, Lieutenant Commander!

=== Medals ===

None to award for this session.

=== Squadron Activity ===

In the special activity continued from last month we're looking for suggestions on naming each of Gold's three flights. If you're not sure what I mean, have a look at the flight names of Red and Red Dragon squadrons on the roster page. I thought about going the Red Dragon route and using various shades of gold for the theme, but I wasn't too sure on the idea.

Therefore, send your ideas forth. You can post them in the following forum thread: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3427

-----

Otherwise, there are the usual batch of activities.

Simming - Many of you are already familiar with this. http://rpg.rebelsquadrons.org/

Flight sims and EaW - The new missions haven't been posted yet, but they'll be in the usual place. http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/itod/

Historical missions - You can always play old missions from the various platforms and report the results for a limited number of activity points. Listing here: http://missions.rebelsquadrons.org/ and reporting here: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/itod/hist/

Multiplayer - Play matches of any game you can provide a screenshot of the results for, but at least two members of the RS must participate in the match to qualify. http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/multiplayer/mp_non_comp

Fiction - Introduced as a squadron activity in the last session, now a permanent option. Rules are in the section below.

= Fiction Writing =

This is a permanent activity for whenever you feel the inkling. Write about whatever your RS character might be up to: recent activities, a specific event in the character's life, playing a practical joke on another member, etc. If you're into simming with the ABG you can alternately pick any of the characters you've created for that. Yes, even dead ones. In addition, you can write about the (mis)adventures of your character(s) in Star Wars: The Old Republic if you like, or just use the Old Republic setting for a framework.

The fiction must be at least 300 words, but can otherwise be as long as you want. You'll receive a point for each piece of fiction you write (going by the points awarded for my and Nicolai's entries for January by Kirghy). These rules are subject to change whenever High Command gets the new system worked out.

You can post your fiction in this forum thread: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=3410

=== Closing ===

That's all for now. Go for the Gold!
