Greetings members of the RS!

I know there hasn't been a monthly SotRS for a while, and for that I do apologize, time tends to slip away from me on occasion. That being said, we have a wealth of information and discussion topics for you to mull over. Feel free to post on the forums any questions you have, or if you don't want them public, feel free to shoot me an email. I respond very quickly.

First order up for business, is the fiction side of the RS. I plan on bringing fiction to the forefront, this includes the main page as well as your profile pages. The main page will have in universe news articles, as well as any other in universe information needed. Once things are setup, everything will be "in character". There will be out of character things as well, but those not logged on will not see that. I want to give folks visiting the site that we are immersed in the Star Wars universe, and that secretly the new republic has found Jar Jar's head and is keeping it on the head of a lightsaber in a vault some where safe. I am currently working on the new profile pages, though not complete by any means, you can see a preview of it here: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/profiles/view.new.php?key=1084. Please replace 1084 with your own pin and then load the page. Keep in mind, this is no way done, there is still a lot to do. This does give you an idea of where we are going with it however. Any advice, constructive comments, or suggestions are welcome.

Next up is a note from our writing director, Kirghy Lommax, In the coming future, there will be guidelines for winning the MRM & aurora cup. Once those are setup they will be posted to the writing department's website. http://writing.rebelsquadrons.org/. There is currently no ETA as of yet, but we will keep you informed.

Third order of business, we have a bylaw change. It's a small one, but it effects all squad CO's, XO's, and want to be's. Ladies and gentlebeings, we are proud to announce the Officer Training school! This course will help you become the best commanding officer you can be. I will even be taking this course, because we can all learn something. Before you rush to sign up however, the instructors in the academy has asked that you head over to the OTS wiki page: http://wiki.rebelsquadrons.org/index.php/Officer_Training_School and read up the information there. Once you complete the course, you have the option of staying on as an instructor. Much like Top Gun (if you're old enough to remember that movie).

Fourth topic we have some basic but very important information. For years, our server has been paid for by one single person. Snappleguy. He has put in well over $3000/US for our server. Sadly, he can no longer do this. To that end, our own Licah Fox has agreed to take over as finance officer to help manage the costs. Now, this does not mean he's paying for it, this just means he's collecting the donations and paying the bills. Under the Miscellaneous tab, then site donations ( http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/donations ) you can see information on how to help us keep our home on the web. We know money is tight, but anything you can donate will be very helpful. Licah is also keeping tabs as to who donated when, ( http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/finances ). Hopefully, we can see you're name up there. Even if you can give us $5/US every other month, ANYTHING will be a huge help.

Which brings us to a final topic of discussion. There has been an idea of setting up a cafepress stand to sell, T-shits and even fake bar items from our IRC channel #RS_Bar_and_Grill. Sadly none of us have a clue about the legal ramifications about selling psudo Star Wars items. This would be a great way to help cover server costs as well show your pride for the RS (and as way to promote us). If you have any ideas about this, we'd love to know. This is a new area for us, and one I'd like to see given a good discussion over. At least if it's not feasible for us, we'll at least know why.

..and now the medals...

This medal is overdue and for that I am ever so sorry. These three men have earned the most prestigious medal we can offer. In the month of March, Lamin Zykara, Kirghy Lommax, and Damon lightwind contributed financial support in the middle of tough economic times, and help secure the RS's home on the web. Beyond that, you three have given your all over the years of service to the RS. The RS thanks you, and awards you the Excellency of service medal.

Hermus Dogan, and InterlinkKnight, you two have gone all over the RS to try and get competitions going, as well as between each other. You both have helped the RS in numerous ways, so for that the RS thanks you and awards you both the Iridium Spire.

Jelf Boom, for consistent reporting in all 5 ITODs, the RS thanks you for your dedication and your service by awarding you the Alvace Star.

In recognition of getting the Officer Training school up and running, these people are awarded the OTS Founder's Coin: Brig Dolaree, Eric Reagan, Licah Fox, Adam Mieter, MAJ Hermus Dogan, and Daryus Zalyn`Cya. Thank you all

Closing Thoughts

Activity has been slow around here lately, for one reason or another, and that's to be expected as we're dealing with 15+ year old games. However, this does not have to be. I'd like to find a healthy balance been today's non-star wars games that members can compete with each other in, as well as keeping the image that we're a predominately star wars club. With my idea of shifting the RS to a roleplaying/in character type of site, I believe we can do just that. The RS has always prided itself on allowing you to be the pilot, or to be the officer, or whatever you wanted to be in the Star wars universe, and now I believe that dream can be achieved. Beyond just narratives, now you have a place to actually BE that person you signed up to be. Once this changes happens, there will be no fear of opening the doors to other non-star wars games. We will still have that image we created, and we can still have fun playing today's games we love. It's a win for everyone. However, it can't be done alone. We need your help. Lots of areas in the RS need help to bring the fiction to the front, if you're interested in any way to help out, please let me know. We can use all sorts of people from researchers, to writers, to note takers. Our logistics department is looking for researchers and note takers, and you won't be alone. You'll be part of a team so the jobs aren't over whelming. Same with out writing department. They will be the keepers of the fiction, while logistics is the keepers of the timeline and supply. Both areas need help, so if you want to help out, please let myself, sconn, or your squad CO know asap.

I hope to see the RS begin anew and grow into something amazing with your help. Thank you, each and every one of you for helping make the RS what is is today.
