I. Foreword and Announcements
From the desk of the Fleet Commander
Hello RS!
We’ve made it through another year. The past few months have seen the release of a new multiplayer shooter: Battlefront 2 and a brand new movie, The Last Jedi! While both spawned some pretty heated discussion, I for one felt they were great additions to the growing library of all things Star Wars.
If you have not yet checked out Battlefront 2, I strongly encourage you to do so! Several of our members have the game on PC and I’m aware of a few that have it on PS4. Drop by discord and ask around if you’re looking for someone to play it with. You may even have the opportunity to participate in some of our member’s Twitch streams.
We have another series of objectives for you to participate in during the months of February and March, along with the continuation of the RS’s epic storyline curated by our Logistics Officer MIchael Raven. It is never too late to join in and start participating!
If I do not see you around on Discord in the next couple of months: stay warm, remember to have fun, and may the force be with you.
Sincerely,
ADM Cyrel Vandroth
Rebel Squadrons Fleet Commander
The Command Staff
The Rebel Squadrons Command Staff consists of all of the members of the RS who have chosen to devote a portion of their time and energy into providing content for the rest of the RS to enjoy. They are the only method in which a member of the RS can earn a Level Two promotion, i.e. to Brigadier General and above.
Command Staff Position filled!
FA Michael Raven has returned to the office of Arbitrator. We welcome back his measured and well reasoned approach to ruling on disputes in the RS.
Command Staff Positions Open!
Rebel Squadrons Executive Officer After years of service, Kirghy Lommax has stepped down from his position as Rebel Squadrons Executive Officer. First and foremost, the RSXO, in conjunction with the Fleet Commander, see to the daily operations of the RS. In the absence of officers in other key roles, the FC and XO will split the labor between them to see that everything that needs to get done, gets done. Secondly, the RSXO acts as a link in the chain of command just beneath the Fleet Commander. They deal with and attempt to resolve situations that get escalated beyond a squadron CO. Finally, in the event of the FC’s incapacitation (Leave, psychotic break, resignation, etc etc), the RSXO takes over until the FC returns or is replaced by High Command.
As an example, as XO, Kirghy filled the roles of Arbitrator, Academy CO and assisted with a bit of IO work, monitored the squad COs, and assisted in writing and publishing the State of the Rebel Squadrons.
We encourage anyone regardless of experience to apply. The only requirement is a drive to make the RS a better place and promote a fun, friendly environment for our membership. If you are interested, contact Cyrel.
Academy CO The academy squadron is in need of a new commanding officer! The Academy CO is responsible for monitoring new applications for membership into the RS, placing the cadet in the Academy squadron, showing them the ropes in the RS, and encouraging activity.
Operations Officer We are still looking for someone interested in taking on the role of Operations Officer! It’s a critical role for the smooth operation of events in the RS, but we encourage anyone regardless of experience to apply. We’re happy to show you the ropes, all you have to bring to the table is a desire to improve the RS for everyone and a willingness to put in the effort.
Internet Office Do you have any experience with web development, or want to learn? Our website needs YOU! The RS is desperately seeking any volunteers who would be willing to work on our website. The poor thing is showing its age, and needs some TLC to keep it modern, if only to incorporate our recent changes to the scoring systems. Contact Cyrel or Joshua Hawkins for details.
Task Force Leaders We are always on the lookout for members who have a passion for an activity and want to work towards encouraging that activity in the RS as a whole. If you manage to drum up enough activity, you’ll be invited to create an ITOD Objective for next session! Contact Cyrel for details.

Personnel Office - Commendations and Awards
Michael Raven “@Raven”: Iridium Spire. Yeah, I know he doesn’t need it, and probably doesn’t want it. But he deserves to be recognized for it. Members were asked to do their wiki. Not only did Raven do his, he presented the entire storyline to bring us to canon and tie up loose ends so that we, the vets, and the newcomers have an idea as to where to go to. Props MUST be given, as dude could have been doing a million different things.
Licah Fox “@Licah”: Dagger of Courage for IO Work

Another two that went above and beyond. Not only did he do his wiki, but he helped revamp, reshape, and modernize the look as well as help shape up and aid others in their work.
Lucas “IronMan” Benoit-Stark “@Ironman”: Kessel Cup. You continue to contribute and excel on multiple fronts. You assisted me to get involved with Zealot and you strive to encourage others to participate and get involved. Promotions:
Kirghy Lommax, attention!
While I am grieved that you have submitted your resignation from the role of RSXO, I completely understand your rationale and wish you the best of luck in your endeavours while on Reserve. Before you go, however, a word. Two, really.
Thank you.
For the past year, you have continued to whether the storm of changing FCs and provided a stable, calm influence during the periods of transition. When the question of who was to next lead the RS, you were willing to step into that role. As RSXO you have been a welcome colleague and confidant in dealing with the stressors of keeping the RS functioning. For another full year of service in one of the RS’ most challenging positions, it is my honor to hereby promote you to the rank of Admiral.
Congratulations Kirghy, and thank you again for your service. Safe paths, best of luck, and may the force be with you, you Fabulous Lommax.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The position of Fleet Commander is perhaps the most thankless job in the Rebel Squadrons. You are expected to do everything, coordinate between a dozen people, handle interpersonal conflicts, participate in things, and take the blame for everything when it goes wrong. Promotions and medals are a small and insignificant way that we show our appreciation, and while they matter, I firmly believe that this… the write-up for said promotion or medal, is far more important.
So,
Admiral Vandroth has been a driving force behind many changes in the RS, and has pushed to bring activity levels back up while taking on several positions that other people have resigned from. He continues to push forward to bring positive change to the RS as a whole, and is perhaps the single most important person behind the scenes keeping things organized and progressing. He still maintains his passion for the RS, regardless of the frustrations and anger felt when things don’t go right, and the fact that he still has such reactions is a testament to the fact he still cares about the organization.
It has been my pleasure to play games, hang out with, and serve in the RS with Cyrel; and it is my honor to announce that High Command has unanimously approved two awards for his service.
First, he is being awarded the ‘Excellency of Service’ medal, the highest commendation award that can be bestowed on someone by High Command, this is to acknowledge his service as Fleet Commander both in his current capacity, and his previous stint.
Second, we are immediately promoting him to the highest rank in the Rebel Squadrons: Fleet Admiral.
I could go into the reasoning for these awards, but I’d rather let a few other people take the floor…
Brigadier General Koah - “As I thought a promotion was a great idea when he stepped down the first time, I will once again state that he not only deserves it but it is just stupid not to give it to him.
Very. Strongly. In favor.
Cheers.”
Vice Admiral Kirghy Lommax - “I think Cyrel should be promoted to Fleet Admiral because he has, through his many years of service, not only participated in RS activities, but has made numerous immeasurable contributions to the RS that have made lasting impacts to the club. On top of this, he has served willingly and with the utmost distinction as the longest serving Fleet Commander in the history of the RS. I can think of no one more deserving of our highest rank.”
Major General Kimiao Quinal - “He's gone above and beyond on two occasions. He's stepped up when the RS were without a captain to steer the ship, twice. I think that his long service and his devotion to want the club to achieve and surpass itself should be recognised. Not to mention he's improved in the man-management aspects and holding people to account, which I think is an area that previously some of the RS leadership have struggled as this is supposed to be a gaming community.”
Lieutenant General Eric Skrevski - "I have known Cyrel for 15/16 years now and he has always pushed to make sure people have fun and helped where he could to promote a fun place to hang out."
Colonel Teu Veld - “Admiral Cyrel Vandroth has shown strong continued dedication to the Rebel Squadrons as shown by the fact he has held the position of Fleet Commander twice now. He has been a member of the club for many years. On top of his continued leadership, he has also become an amazing friend not only in the club but real life as well. Many times in clubs like these it is not who is in charge that makes the biggest impact but those who truly connect with the people of the club and make long-standing friendships and connections with others. As such I want to say thank you to him and give some words on his promotion. Congrats Cyrel, next drinks are on you!”
Admiral Lucas Benoit-Stark - “Cyrel took a job that most wouldn’t take in a million years, but he does it with drive and purpose. He’s been rock solid and thorough, well deserving of recognition for his efforts.”
These are just some of the comments and statements I’ve gotten over the past few days when asking people for their input on these awards. So, there’s just one last thing to say:
Congratulations, and thank you.
-Fleet Admiral Michael Raven, on behalf of High Command.

Hammerfall - Hunting the Hunters
This isn’t good.
Raven kept glancing at the tactical display on his HUD when he should have been paying more attention to what was going on outside his shuttle. Sitting in a Lambda in the middle of a Titan supply depot while an infiltration team from Sentinel was searching for information on the Star Dreadnought herself was not the best time to have your attention diverted. Unfortunately, he’d gotten a data dump just before arriving in Titan space that contained grim news for the RS -- Titan had regained their foothold in Aurora, several RS capital ships had been destroyed, and intelligence had picked up rumblings that attacks across the southern flank were about to begin in an attempt to throw the Republic forces back. The RS was staking their continued existence on attacking the Titan herself, and he’d been tapped to escort their infiltration team to ensure they got out with as much data as possible.
So far, the trip had been uneventful. With a stolen Titan shuttle and up-to-date access codes provided to them by Director Hawkins and his intelligence teams, getting on board the station itself had been easy. He’d actually begun to wonder if his involvement on this mission was a waste of time when a large security detachment of stormtroopers and a KX-series droid started walking over toward his shuttle -- and two of the Sentinel infiltrators entered the hangar shortly thereafter and begin to take cover.
“Kriff me.” He stood from his chair, and made his way to the loading ramp and down to the floor of the hangar just as the KX droid was making its way over. It stopped a few feet away from him, the tall droid glowering down at him while the squad of troopers took up a position behind it. Fortunately, his disguise had been designed to fool a droid’s photoreceptors as well as handling all of the usual situations.
“Pilot. Provide me with your identification.” Raven hated these damned droids, it was if they had been purposefully programmed to be pricks. He handed an identification chit forward, the droid accepting and scanning it before handing it back.
“What is your purpose here?”
“Personnel transport, just dropped off a squad,” He motioned toward the troopers behind the KX droid. “Waiting for refuel and service before leaving.”
“You are to return to your shuttle and vacate the station. Remain in a holding pattern outside until further notice.”
Raven frowned, that meant the infiltration team might have done something wrong, it was a smart move if they were suspicious of what was going on. He chuckled outwardly and reached out, tapping the droid on the shoulder with an almost imperceptible spark snapping between his fingertip and the droid’s chassis.
“Sure thing, just bump me up the resupply and refuel list, and I’ll be outta here. I’m running on fumes, if I fire this puppy up I won’t make it out of the hangar. You can stick around… but I need the service first.”
The droid paused and considered this for a few moments before nodding and motioning at the troopers. “Remain until he leaves.” Without exchanging pleasantries, the droid walked off, and Raven followed suit, heading back into the shuttle; only to be interrupted when shots began ringing out as the remaining Sentinel infiltrators rushed into the hangar, followed by more security. He cursed, rushing into the cockpit to begin firing up the shuttle -- this was their cue to get the hell out.
Nothing seemed to be going right for the RS...
Hammerfall - Hunting the Hunters - Mission Briefing
Note: Objectives are due by 23:59 on March 25 and the session ends at 23:59 on March 31!
Battlefront II - The Tides of War
With the constant ebb and flow of combat, we need competent soldiers across the RS to fight both in our defense, and offensively against our attackers. Titan ground forces have infiltrated several RS installations, and we need to do a little housecleaning to secure our flanks. Commando and starfighter squadrons are being dispatched to take care of these issues.
Participant Overall Objective: RS members are encouraged to play Battlefront II with other RSers and record their results! GO PLAY GAMES!
Note these objectives are CROSS PLATFORM.
Individual Scoring: Make individual game reports via the generic reporter, and for the ITOD put a link to your individual activity profile (ex: http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/test/member.php?pin=1865&date=46 )
RS Defeat: RS Infrastructure is reduced by one level in all sectors due to severe damage to installations and supply depots.
Stalemate: RS Infrastructure is reduced by one level in one random sector due to damage to installations and supply depots.
Objective: At least four unique people must play at least one match with another RSer. If you are on a non-PC platform and cannot take a screenshot, that is acceptable as long as the report is still made and you input your end-game scores into the reporter (This will be our verification).
Minor RS Victory: The RS is able to reinforce their defenses after beating back Titan infiltrators, and increases their defense level by one in one random sector.
Objective: As Stalemate, but including personal objectives: At least four unique people must play at least one match in every game mode.
Major RS Victory: The RS is able to destroy all enemy teams, and increases their defense level by one in all sectors, additionally Titan is unable to attack RS infrastructure next session.
Objective: As Minor Victory: At least two unique RSers must achieve an end-of-game leaderboard nod for being in the top five players in the game. If your player portrait shows up at the end of the game, it counts.
----------------------
Fiction - Protect This House!
Overseeing Officer - IronMan
In a sign of desperation, Titan has launched an attack on Greeop and threatens to damage several of the space stations in the hopes to catch the group off guard and splinter any hopes for a counteroffensive. Resurrection, Red Dagger, and Diamond, are deputed with holding the line against the Titan attack.
Participant Overall Objective: RS Forces will contribute to the thread in order to defend ourselves from Titan. The idea is simple, post and write actions committed by the characters and their squadrons to fend off Titan. Simply put, take part in the thread. If they do so, Titan loses some manpower due to their desperation attack and is forced to abandon their attack mission.
Individual Scoring: The Task Force Leader, Lucas “Ironman” Benoit-Stark,will GM the attack (ala Zealot style) and will prod the squadrons to defend. He will assign roles for each squadron so that they’ll have clear objectives AND so that the story ends within the months assigned. Scoring will be based on the number of post contributed by each person, and also tallied under each squadron. Contributions, creativity, and overall interaction will affect the score. There will be 4 GM led posts (one to start the session, two that gives note of progress as well as objectives, and a final post to conclude the event).
RS Defeat: Significant damage in Greeop space occurs, several space stations are DESTROYED, RS will need to sacrifice some of their strike force on the counteroffensive due to those losses, and morale is adversely affected.
Stalemate: The RS manages to stop the attack, but several space stations on Greeop are damaged and need repairs. The RS will also suffer moderate losses in result of the battle. The RS will sacrifice a small amount of resources and manpower to refortify Greeop space.
Objective: At least four (4) unique people will post on the thread for each session of the thread (4 each session, total of 16 for the thread).
Minor RS Victory: Titan’s attack is thwarted. Several space stations and resources on Greeop suffer minor damages that need repairs, but nothing that will stifle the counteroffensive. The RS suffers little losses in result of the battle. Morale is positively affected.
Objective: Stalemate requirements listed above. In addition, AT LEAST two post must be over 500 words AND at least two joint post must take place within each session.
Major RS Victory: Titan grossly underestimates the RS, and for their folly, they are decimated. The RS suffers no losses of major significance, the counteroffensive remains intact, and the group will gain a notable boost for the next session.
Objective:RS Major Victory - Stalemate requirements. In addition, AT LEAST two joint post must take place between two members of EACH SQUADRON AND at least one (1) post over 1,000 words within each session.
---------------------
Minecraft
Overseeing Officer: Yaihi’l “Fulliron” Beskar
With the constant attrition of battle, resource replenishment and materiel replacement are more important than ever. To that end, New Republic and Imperial Remnant engineering corps are struggling for control of the resource rich Eloria System.
Participant Overall Objective: There are two objectives for RS Minecrafters:
1) Participate in Player vs Player combat events. At the beginning of the session, teams will be selected. Events for each week will take place on the weekend at an agreed upon time. At the end of the session, a Minecraft MVP will be selected, based on PvP performance in both playing the objective and in combat performance.
2) Build something. Build a ship or a non-PvP related structure of appreciable size and detail (the Task Force Leader will judge, based on the Tier 1 rules at http://www.buildatnight.com/site/?q=ranks, but you should require at least one double-chest of materials to finish the build, if not more)
Individual Scoring: Make individual game reports via the generic reporter. For the ITOD, put links to your game reports, and include screenshots of your build (or the build you participated in) once Fulliron has signed off on it. There will be a spreadsheet for MVP calculation, updated after every match.
RS Defeat: Remnant forces push New Republic Engineers out of Eloria.
Stalemate: With Remnant and New Republic forces locked in combat, insufficient replacement resources can be exported from Eloria.
Objective: Four unique RSers participate in at least one PvP event together. One structure is built.
Minor RS Victory: New Republic forces manage to push the Remnant off of Elakia and out of Eloria.
Objective: Four unique RSers participate in three PvP events together. Each team builds one significant structure.
Major RS Victory: New Republic forces push the Remnant out of Eloria, and capture an Imperial resource convoy.
Objective: Six unique RSers participate in PvP, and four of those participate in six PvP events together. Each team builds at least 3 applicable structures
---------------------
Simming
Overseeing officer: Koah
Participant Overall Objective: Titan has changed its tactics, instead of direct assaults they are targeting key supply lines of the ABG. Using a new task force they intend to cripple support for the ABG by starving them out.
Individual Scoring: Current scoring will take place based on the leaderboard in the RS page. Based on the number of points earned by duration, simmers will receive a score of 1-10 based on individual participation lengths earned through simming or GMing a sim. (Highest receives 10, lowest receives 1, rest is divided accordingly). After participating in at least one sim, submit a report to this objective linking their activity profile with evidence they have participated in at least one sim (e.g. http://www.rebelsquadrons.org/test/member.php?pin=1865&date=46 ).
RS Defeat: Hitting all of the lines with overwhelming force they have crippled ABG until they can recover and stage their own counter offensive. Side projects and businesses have their net gains ( not gross ) halved until at least a minor RS victory in Simming is achieved.
Stalemate: The Titan and ABG forces are fighting to a stand still. ((Characters cannot upgrade for the first week unless the player posts on the forums or char sims explaining their efforts toward solving the issue.))
Objective: At least 20 hours of total sims reported. (( 3 characters + 1 GM count as 4 hours per every hour they participate. ))
Minor RS Victory: The ABG manages to push back the new Titan offense and score enough damage to discourage further supply line attacks. ((During one week, players can choose a single side project or business that uses a 1d100 and count that roll as a 90. Players can only use this before they choose to roll.))
Objective: 40 Hours of sims reported, 5 hours of character sims reported.
Major RS Victory: Crushing the Titan forces has given the ABG forces intel on an under-defended Titan supply base. Turning the tides on the Titan forces the ABG has managed to not only destroy the new task force, but also resupply with Titan’s own resources. ((Income for all side projects and business are doubled for one week. Players must choose to apply this bonus before they begin rolling. This does not double losses from random rolls.))
Objective: 200 hours of simming reported. 20 hours of charsiming reported. At least 1 member successfully takes their aGM, GM, SGM tests or at least 10 unique players participate in a sim during the session.

X-Wing Minis/Armada
Overseeing officer: Danny “David Lee Japan” Qatar a.k.a. Codyman
Assist in the Defence of Greeop
Titan is attacking Greeop directly. Get in your ships and repel elements of the attack with your squadron!
Participant Overall Objective: Play Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1TRGnMMipxRbjd2emZNMXFEWTQ/view?usp=sharing) or Star Wars Armada (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1TRGnMMipxRVko2R3U1OTZvLVE/view?usp=sharing) via Vassal (http://www.vassalengine.org/download.php)Take a screenshot of any match end stats AND report via the RS Reporter ( (From the left-hand navigation bar, Reporters -> Generic Reporter, http://rebelsquadrons.org/multiplayer/report_mp.php). Then report any matches played for this session’s X-Wing Minis/Armada gaming activity (http://rebelsquadrons.org/activities/).
Individual Scoring: Based on report results, one (1) point awarded for defeat, two (2) points awarded for victory. Most points at the end of session is the winner. Participants’ final scoring will be ranked on a scale of one (1) to ten (10) for ITOD scoring purposes. In the event of a Major Victory, the Individual Scoring winner will be able to obtain a custom ship care for X-Wing Minis, stats to be at the discretion of card maker FA Qel-Droma.
RS Defeat: Titan achieves significant damage on Greeop and annihilates the squadron.
Objective: Less than four (4) matches played this session.
Stalemate: The RS force successfully repel Titan’s attack, suffer moderate casualties, but Titan will hit again.
Objective: At least four (4) RSers play at least eight (8) matches AND report this session. Both X-Wing Minis and Armada are played.
Minor RS Victory: The RS force successfully repel Titan’s attack, suffer some casualties. Titan may try again, but is licking its wounds.
Objective: At least six (6) RSers play at least ten (10) matches AND report this session. Both X-Wing Minis and Armada are played at least (2) times each. In addition, Capital ships are involved in X-Wing Minis at least once.
Major RS Victory: Titan elements and successfully routed by your squadron with few RS casualties. Titan will take time to recover and think twice about attacking again in the near future.
Objective: Over four (4) RSers play at least (10) matches AND report this session. Both X-Wing Minis and Armada are played at least four (4) times each. In addition, Capital ships are involved in X-Wing Minis at least twice.

Xwing Alliance
While the strike on the ISD Titan’s Wrist has begun successfully and the Wrist’s shields are out and has sustained some damage, a Titan reinforcement including an Interdictor destroyer has jumped in at the end of the engagement and now has our fighters pinned down! With the rest of our forces already committed or too far away and munitions running low from attacking the wrist, the brave RS pilots will need to show uncommon valor to shoot their way out of the net and make it safely back into RS space!
Participant Overall Objective: Download the mission from here and rename to 1B1M1G.tie and place it in your Xwing Alliance/MISSIONS folder (first backing up the original 1B1M1G.tie file). Enter the game and in the simulator play Battle 1 Mission 1. This will launch the downloaded mission. Take a screenshot with your individual score at the end and submit the report to the RS XWA activities section.
Individual Scoring: Individual scoring (out of 10) to be based on mission score and on the number of players participating in the objective.
RS Defeat: Titan is able to save their Star Destroyer, and it will be added to an enemy force in the next session.
Objective: Less than 3 individual mission reports submitted with mission completed.
Stalemate: Titan is able to save their Star Destroyer but it is too severely damaged to be used without extensive repair and may show up in future missions.
Objective: Less than 4 individual mission reports submitted with mission completed.
Minor RS Victory: The Star Destroyer is obliterated, and Titan loses yet another of their large ships.
Objective: At least 4 individual mission reports submitted with mission completed.
Major RS Victory: Not only are we able to destroy the Star Destroyer, but the Interdictor as well, severely reducing Titan’s staying power in the area.
Objective: At least 6 individual mission reports submitted with mission completed.
V. Conclusion
We have slightly fewer objectives this session which means they are all the more important to the RS Storyline. Last session saw several objectives go without any participants, don’t let that happen again! Keep up the fight, Rebels, and good luck.
