Rebel Squadrons

About the Rebel Squadrons

Overview

Mission Statement (from the RS Bylaws):

"The Rebel Squadrons (RS) is an online club centered on the Star Wars universe and dedicated first and foremost to providing a rewarding and fun experience for all of its members. The Rebel Squadrons also strives to cultivate creativity, excellence, and leadership amongst its members, in a manner consistent with the ideals of the Star Wars Republic that it is pledged to defend."

The RS is a Star Wars club. We have members whose ages run a large gamut. The RS membership comes from all over the globe. In spite of these cultural differences, or perhaps because of them, the Rebel Squadrons is an enjoyable and exciting atmosphere to not only experience Star Wars, but to take that experience one step further.

In essence, the RS plays Star Wars games, both online and offline. Offline gaming can be as exciting as online when you participate in an Interactive Tour of Duty (ITOD). In an ITOD, one flies custom missions made by other members, or even made by yourself if you want to learn. After finishing the mission, you can get into character and write a story of how the mission went from your point of view. This is an excellent opportunity to delve into the Star Wars universe, as you tell how your X-Wing dodged a TIE Fighter and then made an attack run on the enemy's Imperial Star Destroyer. As a result, your flight of the mission has a direct result on the next mission. Rightly so, you and eleven other members in your squadron will be the final determinant on how the story evolves from beginning to end. Playing online, we also go head-to-head to see who is the best pilot or soldier, as well as play multiplayer custom missions with teammates, designed by teammates.

The Rebel Squadrons also firmly believes in the H.I.E.R. principle. Pronounced "higher", the acronym stands for Honesty, Integrity, Equanimity, and Respect. The RS bases its foundation on the fact that each of its members must strive to meet this code, and know that every other pilot and soldier fighting for the New Republic strives to meet the same code. Every level of RS leadership takes the H.I.E.R. principle very seriously and expects every member to do the same. The RS has many members who are legally defined as minors and we take very seriously our responsibility to ensure their safe enjoyment.

Finally, the RS is about having a good time. This club is about Star Wars. It is about learning how to be a good leader and maybe even learning a little bit about life along the way. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we are all here to have fun inside an amazing universe created by George Lucas.

Fictional Origins

Several years after the Battle of Endor, the upper echelons of the New Republic military, while plagued with a number of other problems, became aware of a weak spot on the rim of New Republic holdings. Their situation, and even the continued existence of the New Republic, often looked worse than bleak. Admiral Ackbar and his forces were harried more often than not, and their losses were dire. Even the famed Rogue Squadron, now led by Commander Wedge Antilles, was hard pressed to keep the scales of power from tipping toward the remains of the Empire.

Disturbed by the presence of a powerful Imperial-equipped fleet along with the rumor of another Grand Admiral, it was decided that the threat was too great to ignore. But spreading the attention of the master strategists, let alone the fleet itself, and thinner than it already dangerously was, would only spell disaster for the entire new government that the heroes of Yavin, Hoth, and Endor had sought so hard to build. Something had to be done, but the choices were few. Exceedingly few. Since Ackbar could not divide his forces any further, he would have to give orders to set up a secondary fleet. One that would be nearly autonomous as quickly as possible.

Admiral Ackbar had visited the area personally, and selected the Greeop System for the fleet's home base, and christened it the "Rebel Squadrons." Its mission: to keep the Imperial threat neutralized in the Greeop Sector and to ensure that the surrounding frontier of the New Republic is stabilized. Ackbar and the New Republic supported and supplied the battle fleet as best they could. Those who were first in charge of it built the Rebel Squadrons up from amazingly little. However, new places were found from which to draw supplies and fighters, most of which were cheap knock-offs of those from the Alliance.

Trading protection from Imperial enslavement in a volatile sector to supply its needs, the Rebel Squadrons was soon able to enlarge its forces and spread beyond the bounds of a single fleet. To meet the very real and dangerous Imperial presence, the RS found itself the size of a battle group comprised of multiple fleets.

In order to keep the peace among the various fleets, the RS battle group did something virtually unheard of in the New Republic Military. The commanders of each Fleet gathered to form a council, essentially giving the RS its own High Command. Since then, the Rebel Squadrons has operated in accordance to New Republic wishes and orders, however infrequent, and continues to enjoy limited supplies from the New Republic. Although it is a largely independent arm of the military, the RS High Command and RS Fleet Commander maintain contact with the heads of the New Republic, but the RS is largely left to manage its affairs on its own.

Based out of its headquarters on the world of Blerthmore in the Greeop System, the Rebel Squadrons continues as the New Republic's guardian of this part of the border against what is still considered Imperial space. While other battle groups take the fight to the heart of the slowly receding Empire, the Rebel Squadrons holds a vigilant watch over the Greeop System and the region of space surrounding it.

The battle group stands continuously ready for any Imperial incursions into New Republic space, and watches after all New Republic interests in the area. Even though its orders are to hold the area in its charge, it exceeds those orders in that the border between is slowly shifting further into Imperial territory.
