Windstrom Flight Deck, 03:30

Shuttle Arriving was announced over the Windstrom flight deck public address system. This shuttle was transporting supplies and replacement personnel to the Windstrom. Among the personnel was a returning pilot who had served with the RS for several years.

LCL Brig Dolaree stepped off the shuttle and went looking for Kirghy to report for duty. Brig found General Lommax relaxing in the ships cantina. Brig shouted Kirghy!!. Kirghy looked up from his drink and said “we got a Brig in the house!” Brig approached walked up to Kirghy and saluted. Reporting for duty Kirghy! Where’s the action at? Kirghy said, you really back Brig, or am I just dreaming. “your not dreaming Kirgs, I finally got my affairs back home in order. And sitting in my house with nothing to do, I realized I just miss the action out here in deep space.

Well Brig, we got an open slot in your old squadron. I am assigning you as Red Dragon 8, and we got some action ready for you if you want it. Report to briefing room A in 2 hours.

Brig reported to the personnel office and got assigned a cabin, then dropped off his personnel effects and just made it in time for the briefing. Heavy got up and stated to the assembled pilots, “ We have received reports that pirate activity in the Halas Sector is increasing. Intelligence informs us that the pirates plan on attacking our repair and supply station in the next few hours. You are to proceed to the Halas Sector and protect the repair facility and craft present at all costs. Are continued presence in this sector depends on this facility remaining operational. The Windstrom is on standby if the pirates attack. Everyone, welcome back LCL Dolaree. He is returning from retirement, and he has several years of experience in taking out the Imps. Brig greeted the other pilots present. Then followed them to the hanger.

Brig was glad to be assigned an X-wing for this mission. Brig’s first fighter in the Rebel Squadrons was an X-wing. They handled like a dream and had all the power needed to vape Imperial ties.

Brig completed his pre-flight check and took off with the rest of the assembled pilots. Upon arrival in the Halas sector things were quiet. All of a sudden a radio call of “Bandits are setting up for a torpedo run” went out over the pilots secure channel. Brig looked and spotted a flight of T-wings and two transports. Brig opened his throttle and pushed out towards the raiding pirates. Brig shredded a T-wing on his first pass, and then a Corellian Transport crossed his path. Brig opened up on the transport and got the shields down, and then broke off. Brigs Wingman finished off the transport as Brig looked and was able to score another kill on a T-wing. Brig spotted another T-wing that was damaged and got an assist for helping to shoot it down and then scored his third T-wing kill. All of a sudden things were quiet. The squadron resumed their patrol and the Windstrom arrived. Better late than never thought Brig. A few minutes of patrolling went by, then another call of bandits came over the secure comm. Brig turned and followed the rest of the squadron in towards the Windstrom. Three more flights of bandits were closing in, a flight of Z-95’s, a flight of R41’s and a flight of Tie Fighters. Brig Headed for the Z-95’s first, but the Windstrom and the rest of the squadron took them down fast. Brig was able to score one assist on the Z-95’s, then turned his attention to the Ties were he score one kill and one assist. Mission Complete came over the secure comm, but there were still some R41’s out there and Brig bagged three before returning to the Windstrom.

After landing, Brig reported to the debriefing and found that he was credited with 7 kills and 4 assists. Not a bad way to start a tour. Instead of going to celebrate with the other pilots, Brig went straight to his cabin and fell asleep. The trip out to the Windstrom had taken to much energy out to want to celebrate now.
