In Orbit above the planet, Landing craft were preparing to depart to begin the invasion below. LCL Brig Dolaree sighed, wondering just what he had gotten himself into. This was the first time he had been tasked with leading a ground offensive. Brig had a lot of experience flying and even a small amount of experience coordinating a task force, but leading ground troops was an entirely different kind of animal to manage. As Brig stepped onto the landing craft, he went over his notes from the intelligence briefing. The Imperial outpost consisted mainly of snow troopers with light scouting ATST’s. The Imperials also had several Tie Maulers and two repulsar tanks. Among the critical objectives were to knock out the Imperial barracks, a light factory and several resource sites. If the primary objectives were not met, this battle could slowly grind itself into a battle of attrition.
The landing craft arrived at dawn. There was no initial resistance from the Imperial Army, so Brig ordered the Alliance troops to set up some defense platforms to secure the landing site. Brig then sent several snow speeders to scout the terrain ahead of the main force. The scouts were able to site some snow troopers and a platoon of Tie Maulers approaching. The snow speeders stayed out of range until Brig ordered the light tanks to engage along with infantry support. It was a quick affair. The combined arms of the rebel alliance knocked out the first Imperial assault. The snow speeders where again ordered to scout ahead. Another landing site was identified and Brig ordered a general advance to secure the site and build a new network of support sites. A field hospital and repair stations were established to make repairs and heal of the assault team before moving on.
The Imperials began a general assault at this time. Scout troops and snow troopers along with a some heavy platforms were sent in. They were again blasted away under a coordinated combined arms attack. The Imperials were able to shoot down a snow speeder and take out a light tank. But their forces were already weakened to much to dent the offensive. Brig saw the opening and the lack of defensive support, so he ordered a massed assault to drive through the Imperial lines. Brig had the main column bypass the light factory that was discovered, but had the factory bombed out of existence to prevent the enemy from releasing a new unit behind the advancing lines of battle.. At long last the final objectives were spotted. Healing and repair stations were set up and the entire force charged forward, wiping this Imperial garrison from existence. When the smoke had finally cleared, there were no Imperial survivors left. Brig was sickened by the carnage on the battlefield, but he realized that the only way to take out a fanatical enemy was to completely destroy it. Brigs conscience was relieved by the fact that the Imperials chose to fight to the death, and that the Alliance troops had offered terms of surrender before wiping them out.
Brig surveyed the battlefield and found the planet secure, so he returned to the flagship in orbit above the planet. Mission accomplished.
