Dented Shield: Fiction (Cross posted to the forum)

I can't say I have many personal enemies, honestly. Not really any one person I can point to.

But I'll try... I'll set the scene to help explain. It was Coronet City, Corellia's gem. Born and raised, and I was eleven years old when it happened. It wasn't long after the first Death Star was destroyed, when Corellia was still kinda independent from the Empire's direct control.

It was night time, and nothing seemed out of place at first. There was some sort of fuss, but I didn't know what was going on at the time. There was something about droids at the outskirts of the city and there was trouble about them. Then the T-47s blew by overhead. That got me excited, I was always enthusiastic about various craft since my grandfather was a pilot for CorSec. It was unusual sure and more than that they were armed. It was quickly joined by a roar of a different set of engines, one that's burned into my memories with the destruction as the first flight of TIE bombers began their bombing run on the city.

The Imps of course overloaded the civilian communications, announcing that there were rebel terrorists in the city and it was our fault. And of course as such for the time being we were fully under jurisdiction of the Empire. Meaning they were there to stay, and everything went to hell.

But I'm not done the story. The airspeeders fought back to defend the city, which you can imagine had a pretty strong impact on me. They tore into the bombers with a vengeance, but they could only do so much. The Empire wasn't messing around, they weren't content with ground units to try and take care of who I later found out was a defector. They had a squad of bombers... and a full armored unit. For two people? The Imps did their best to spin everything, but they dug in fast anyhow, so we didn't have much choice especially at first. They downplayed the role of that squadron of our defenders, and that light freighter that was spotted evacuating people from the Capital Tower before it was destroyed.

It wasn't until years later that I learned the full story. I'd joined a local resistance, an independent cell, being inspired by what I saw that night. Turns out it was the same unit that had took out the Death Star. Rogue Squadron had been my inspiration to fight this whole time and... interestingly enough that freighter was General Solo in action.. It's funny to think about now, really. Some hands I'd dearly like to shake one day, legends who we owe a lot. Who I owe.

So I was asked a question. If I could pick someone, it would be the officer who ordered that attack. They directed a full assault on a major populated city, to stop a defection of an officer. Insane, and a perfect demonstration as to why the Empire needed to be brought down. So there you have it. If I had my sights on a shuttle, or my blaster aimed... I wouldn't hesitate.
