I. Foreword

Hello, everyone! Apologies for a slightly-delayed State of the Rebel Squadrons address this month. For those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving, I hope that you had a peaceful and happy holiday. As some of you know, I dealt with the loss of a pet the weekend immediately before Thanksgiving, making the last few weeks a bit hectic for me and my family. Nonetheless, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share a few things for which I'm thankful, even if it is a few days past the holiday.

  • I'm thankful for the trailer for The Force Awakens, which made me literally squeal with glee like the 7-year old I secretly am on the inside.

  • I'm thankful that the trailer jumpstarted an international debate on the utility of the cross-guard microlightsabers. It's high time that our society addressed this pressing issue.

  • I'm immensely grateful that I am in a club surrounded by talented and awesome people from all around the world who share a common love of debates about cross-guard microlightsabers.

  • Perhaps most of all, I'm thankful that I have the chance to lead an awesome team of people trying to make the best Star Wars experience possible for us all.

My thanks go out to each of you for everything you do to make the RS a cool place.

Now, with that said...onto the rest of the State of the Rebel Squadrons!

II. Personnel and Project Updates

Assistant Internet Officer - I'd like to give a big shout-out to Captain Jaran "Gunsmoke" Farlance, who stepped up and is serving as an Assistant IO for the club right now. Gunsmoke is focusing on a special IO-related project for me, which will probably be debuted to the club in early 2015.

Wildcard Squadron - Gold and FireClaw Squadrons were merged together at the beginning of November, and after a few votes by the members, decided to adopt the name Wildcard from the historical archives. Hermus Dogan will continue to lead the unit, formed out of the members from both units.

Welcome to New Cadets - I'd like to take a moment to welcome our newest cadets: tk421 (why aren't you at your post!?), Tyrren, Rax Trellik, 0athbr3ak3r, Jas Marbo, ReaverT, and iggy. Welcome to the fleet!

III. Activities and Events

As I'm sure you've all noted by now, Good Old Games (www.gog.com) has X-Wing and TIE Fighter for sale. Go buy them if you don't own them. Heck, go buy them if you do own them, just to drive the business up! Buy a copy for a friend! It's the holiday season, they would make great digital stocking stuffers! And while you're at it...why not encourage them to check out this "Rebel Squadrons" thing that everyone talks about?

In addition, our RPG Coordinator Fleet Admiral Michael Raven has put together a new RPG project for the Allegiance Battle Group, focusing on the exploits of Sentinel Company. This looks to be one of the coolest storylines yet to come out of his his fiendishly creative mind. As he told myself and the XO, "If you've ever thought about trying out the ABG, this is where to do it." The storyline formally launched on December 1st, but new players are always welcome. For more details, check out this link!

As you all know, we're currently on hold pending a reorganization of the scoring system (as well as a few other projects), so there is no formal activity this month. However, legacy missions will be (or already are) posted for the flight simulators, so feel free to get out there and rack up some kills on the leaderboard!

IV. Promotions and Awards

Now, onto promotions and awards. In what has become a regular occurrence for these addresses, I need Wayne77177, front and center! First off, I'd like to congratulate you on your recent promotion to Major. Very well deserved! Next up, I'm pleased to present you with your four Citations of Victory for your performance on the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter, and X-Wing: Alliance leaderboards! Well done, Major Wayne77177!

Up next, Fleet Admiral Michael Raven, front and center! Raven bested us all again at Star Wars Trivia last month, which is of course, no surprise. I personally am holding out hope of the new movies introducing new trivia, which may be his only weakness. In any case, I'm pleased to present you with this Citation of Victory. Congratulations!

Admiral Licah Fox, I have a note here from Hermus that says "You've probably been around a lot longer, but you've definitely earned this!" It was attached to a 13-Year Service Medal, which I am pleased to present to you. Congratulations, Licah!

Can I have Jaran "Gunsmoke" Farlance, front and center? Jaran has been assisting me with a special project as an Assistant IO, and his efforts have been fantastic. I'm very pleased to recognize his service and dedication with a promotion to Major. Congratulations, MAJOR Farlance!

Finally, can I have Colonel Hermus Dogan, front and center? Hermus, as Legacy Gaming Coordinator, you're an essential part of the Rebel Squadrons, and I cannot imagine doing my job without you. In addition, you serve the club as a Squadron CO, and also serve as our resident Licah-herder and one of the blocky warriors of our Minecraft server. It gives me great pleasure to promote you to the grade of Brigadier General, in recognition of your hard work and leadership. Well done!

Congratulations, everyone!

V. Conclusion

Join up with the new Sentinel Company, fly some legacy missions, play a few matches of X-Wing Miniatures, or get together with your fellow members and do something else! Let's make this holiday season a great one. Until next time, as always, fly fast, shoot straight, and may the Force be with you.

All the best,

Commodore Lamin Zykara
