X-Wing
Tour 1: A New Ally
OP 1: Destroy Imperial Convoy
▼ Briefing
The Hit and Fade strike against the Imperial convoy leaving the Dellalt system has turned up an unexpected bonus. Blue Squadron reports that the crew of the Corvette assigned to escort the convoy wants to defect!
Your X-wings are being scrambled to destroy the convoy while the Y-wings guard the Corvette. A transport with a boarding party is en route to take over the Corvette.
Use your sensors and targeting system to locate the enemy freighters. You will find that your proton torpedoes are very useful against these large targets.
Rebel intelligence believes that this convoy is part of a re-supply operation in preparation for a major Imperial offensive in this sector. It is hoped that by capturing the Corvette's crew, more can be learned about this campaign.

I still can't believe how long it takes to evict all the TIEs from the frigate. Every time I think I've finished, another wave launches. Gotta love those Imperials. |
2. | GEN Damon Lightwind | 36,244 | 42 | Victory | July 31, 2011 | Patients and timing keys to greater rewards run three was inspired by KB battles of the past. That and usually were you find me Licah and many other good pilots use to battle hard for the top. Also Spokes can tend to sneak in there last min and seal the win as have others however it's all in good fun. |

One of the easier missions in X-Wing. You can get a Mission Complete without much effort and can rack up a lot of kills by taking on the TFs and the Frigate.
The key to a high score is vaping the furthest FRT as quickly as possible and then coming back for the other two. If the furthest one hypes out, no Frigate.
I remember how it felt to finish the training missions and then fly Mission 1 of Tour 1 the very first time some 18 years ago. This was the coolest and most advanced game anyone had ever seen and I was hooked.

At first glance this mission is pretty basic. Go here, kill a few freighters, leave. It really is that basic if you only destroy the minimum required number of freighters.
But if you're a little more patient, you see the larger picture. This mission is ripe for a few different sorts of tactics, and if you wait long enough (or is it from killing a certain freighter?) you'll see the arrival of a Nebulon-B Frigate. Not particularly threatening since it jumps in so far from anything, but it's home to an absurd number of TIE Fighters. I couldn't quite believe it when wave after wave TIEs kept launching.
If you tackle the whole slew of Imperials, this is quite a fun mission. Damon suggested this mission for the Academy in his review, and I have to agree with that assessment. Seems like a good standard for a starter mission.

This mission was fun! It had some good elements to it. It would have been nice to get one more set of torpedo's and if it had a little more of a challenge to it.

Nothing like revisiting an old classic mission and it one I remember like yesterday. Brings back the memories before my RS days and during as well fun times every one of em. I also think this one would be a good to use in the Academy for training. It's got a good feel for that kind of purpose and is decent enough to get started on.

A really smooth and stress-free mission, I always liked it. The easter egg with the freighters' names was a brilliant idea. And I didn't know about the TIE Fighters, so I will refly it again ;)

I think this is a great mission to start the first tour with - once you've figured out not to take to long getting rid of the freighters, it falls into place very easily, and unlike some of later tours missions is quite easy to complete. Lots of chances for getting extra points as well, one of which is taking on some of the TIE's which come into the area later on in the mission.
